@JayTee"Still enough money for the Obamas to take multi-million-dollar
vacations around the globe, complete with all assistants and security
detail."The previous Chinese leader once visited 17 African
nations in a 10 month span. Perhaps it's no coincidence that China exported
200 billion worth of products to Africa last year while the US exported half
that since China's putting more effort into Africa than we have. Any
economic deals that can be worked out would easily be worth much more than the
cost of the trip. The DNs editorial staff can see the bigger picture
on this matter in their editorial today on Africa, you see a partisan soundbite.
The problem with budgets is that every politician wants to keep HIS budget
items, and we should be cutting EVERYWHERE . . . including in the White House.
Hey folks, we have a nearly $17,000,000,000,000 official immediate Federal
deficit that isn't going to evaporate spontaneously. We have to get dead
serious about cutting spending and preventing cost increases, or we're all
going to be facing economic doomsday. Bush didn't advocate any degree of
spending cuts (just taxes), and the current administration wants to spend even
more and raise taxes even further. We can't continue to live in an insane
world and believe that somehow it will all work itself out.
Still enough money for the Obamas to take multi-million-dollar vacations around
the globe, complete with all assistants and security detail.
@Big D"At any rate, here in California, the flyovers definitely
continue..."I wonder if the difference is whether an owner of
the event venue is willing to pay more for it to offset the gov't cuts.
One Old Man....WRONG...listen to the debate before you comment on it. Obama made
no reference to congress he simply promised if he was elected there would be no
sequestration...another Obama lie
@ One OldThe sequester was Obama's idea. Congress went along
with it hoping that Pres. Obama would be willing to work with Congress on coming
up with a solution before it was to take effect. This is according to Bob
Woodward the legendary reporter who exposed "Watergate" and also was
granted an interview with the Obama administration who told him it was their
idea. Obama said in 2008 he would reach across party lines and work with
Congress. Apparently he hasn't kept his promise since he refuses to work
with the Republican House unless it involves a tax on the rich who pay the
majority of our taxes.
"It's about time that America's focus on lavish expensive,
unproductive activities begin to be curtailed." - Ha! tell that to el
presidente, who has not curtailed his lavish lifestyle one iota since day one!
in fact, it's as though he invents ways to live lavishly - to throw it in
our faces! It's all about getting the masses to do what their told by those
who know better. You can't see this?!
@ one old man - Ogden, UT - "Wow, the hatred dripping from some of the
uninformed (or perhaps informed only by hate radio) posts here is disgusting.
It's frightening to think that some people are gullible enough to believe
all the stories they hear blatting from their radios."So you
poke us conservatives for believing what we hear on AM talk radio and yet ignore
all that you liberals believe blaring 24/7 from CNN, MSNBC and 90% of the
mainstream media outlets?Nope, no hypocrisy there....I'm active duty military and will tell you that cancelling military
fly-overs on the 4th of July is hardly a drop in the bucket in the big financial
scheme of things. Is it helpful? Sure, a little. But the accusations of
hypocrisy by the right towards liberal federal officials, all the way up to the
White House, are 100% valid. You simply can't say "Cancel YOUR event
while I fly to Africa" (Africa??...what the heck is strategically important
in AFRICA?!?!) and retain any semblance of integrity.Sorry, but the
left is, once again, out in left field on this issue....
@ There You Go Again"All the states that voted for President Obama
will have flyovers...I saw it on Drudge."You are absolutely
right! I would have thought your statement was facetious, but I know from
experience it is true. (Of course, I only have n=2 so far to judge.)I attended a soccer game on Saturday at Stanford Stadium-- LA Galaxy vs San
Jose Quakes. It was AWESOME comeback by the Quakes, being a man down and yet
scoring 2 goals in stoppage time to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Poor Donovan. Anyway, before the game, during the national anthem,
we had a sweet flyover by 3 jets, each streaming a different color of smoke, one
red, one white, one blue. There was a patriotic show at halftime, and fireworks
after the game. A great celebration of sport and patriotism. At any
rate, here in California, the flyovers definitely continue...
Besides its sound, what other freedoms has BO revoked?Guilty until
proven innocent at TSA screeningsForced to buy something you may or may
not want that does NOTHING to address the costs of healthcareCannot park
close to many buildings without special “green” carsEconomic
viabilities not free from sustained assaultFreedom of conscience being
desecratedEtc. ad inifnitumOld manSequestration was
BO’s idea. Scapegoating for him is just that, scapegoating. It IS his
fault.Bush did not travel foreign NEARLY as much as BO has.And of course, there is NEVER any hate dripping from your comments, especially
when you call those with whom you disagree “misinformed”Little stream,Which congressional planes are you talking about? I have
seen ALL of our congressional delegation on the 6 pm Delta flight out of DC.
You must be referring to queen nancy – she’s no longer speaker, is
she still flying on private AF flights?
In your face. That is the only thing that is said. Loyalty isn't a
commodity. Honor can't be bout, respect is earned.
Wow, the hatred dripping from some of the uninformed (or perhaps informed only
by hate radio) posts here is disgusting. It's frightening to think that
some people are gullible enough to believe all the stories they hear blatting

"9-11-2001" (fat fingered it)Perhaps we would welcome
Russian and Chinese military jets that 'America' paid for, flying over
our Independence celebrations and parking their war ships and aircraft carriers
that 'America' paid for in our harbors. 100's of billions of
dollars in interest payments sent to these countries and we are going to argue
about a few hundred million dollars it would cost to perpetuate the Independence
legacy by allowing the sounds of freedom to echo off the majestic purple
mountain majestic ranges, and fields of grain from sea to shining sea.
It was sad to hear the flyovers aren't happening, but our grandparents and
parents (those who are still left) could tell us a few things about cutting back
in order to weather the storms of the depression and actually win World War
II.As far as Sequestration, though it happened during the democratic
*watch* (I'm a conservative), I haven't seen the dire consequences
that were predicted. It is FAR better now to do some cutbacks in spending (or
at least slow the growth) than to keep spending the way we are. Look at many
nations, like Greece, Portugal, etc. We too would have riots in the streets if
our spending bankrupts us. Hopefully, we will learn from sequestration. I'm a little afraid though that the spending with The Patient
Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka, Obamacare) will make sequestration
savings look like a pittance. Nevertheless, in hindsight, I think sequestration
was a good move. The world did not end. We learned a lesson and we sent a
message to our children and the rest of the world.
Sequestration is all well and good IF our leaders knew what it meant. Our
"fearless" leader spends 100 million for family trip, our Senate
Majority leader wants 100 million for Vegas tourism and our congressmen spend
money researching brothels. Meanwhile our service men go without proper
equipment, our Veterans are given brush of, the White House is closed to school
children, and we miss a traditional symbol of our National Holiday. SAAAAAAD
Obama can spend $100 million in a week visiting Africa, so why does
sequestration only affect everyone but him? What a disater!
Sequestration is all well and good ....IF...the powers that be knew what it
meant. Our "fearless" leader spending 100 million for he, his family
and cronies to go to Africa; our Senate majority leader wants 100 million for
Vegas tourism and our congressmen spend money on prostitutes. Meanwhile, our
service men use outdated equipment, our school children cannot go inside the
White House, and we cannot view a traditional symbol of our National Holiday.SAAAAAAD.
Mohokat, let's do some research. GW Bush is in Africa with Obama right
now. Bush still has Secret Service protection. How many taxpayer dollars were
spent to get him over there and keep him and Laura safe?Answer
please.(Here's what the Washington Post had to say:
"Presidential travel is expensive; the cost of operating Air Force One is
about $180,000 per flight hour. President Clinton’s trip to Africa in 1998
cost about $42.8 million. President George W. Bush made two trips to Africa
during his two terms, although cost estimates aren’t available for those
visits."So much for transparency in the Bush years.
Interesting that Congress has enough money to make sure their private planes
fly. So sad that they would do this for July 4th.
We, collectively and individually should and must do all we can to insure these
sounds of freedom protected by the US Constitution are 'never'
silenced! This is the very essence of what freedom represents. Remember
9-11-2011 when there was no jet noise? It was, for me horrifically eerie.I felt
like evil had finally conquered good. Now it looks like the sounds of freedom
are going to be silenced as a result of weak city, state and national political
and military leaders who are flagrantly disregarding their Oaths of Office.
Totally disgraceful and unacceptable! I will contribute all I have
to keep the sounds of freedom a part of a centuries old tradition. Please keep
this legacy alive for the children, they have enough evil distracting them and
discouraging them from achieving their dreams. Do it for the children, please.
During the presidential debates Obama told American voters that if he was
elected there would not be sequestration IF Congress would work together to
solve the budget problems. Blaming Obama entirely for sequestration is just
Congress can find $30 billion to gift illegal law breakers citizenship. Obama
can find $100 million to fly to Africa. No fly overs and white house tours. Go
Flying these jets are really expensive, most likely most spectators don't
realize the true cost. It's about time that America's focus on lavish
expensive, unproductive activities begin to be curtailed. The Government
through its Congress is reflecting a role model that in the long run may be good
for America's youth and begin to learn the responsibility and the value of
money, not excess.
Every one seems to want some thing for nothing from the Federal government.Every little town wishes for a flyover for their local parade.Would it be unreal for the Stadium of Fire Committee to make a contribution to
cover the cost of the fly overs?
During the presidential debates Obama told American voters that if he was
elected there would not be sequestration. Another lie.
All the states that voted for President Obama will have flyovers...I
saw it on Drudge.
I am not sure these flyovers are of no value. Does marketing and recruiting
begin in the mind of a 5 year old as he watches those majestic screaming lawn
darts overhead, then wants to go to the air show at the base to see the F-22s
and sit in the pilots seat of a C-17, and sets his goal on sitting in that pilot
seat some day? I did. And so did my son.Even in a time of war,
recruiting is crucial. In the meantime we will miss the sense of community with
the Air Force, and national pride in what we contribute locally to peace through
I too love the flyovers. But, given the cutback in flight hours, our pilots
really do need to make every second count towards mission essential skills, and
flyovers just don't rank that high.Of course, patriotic
flyovers rate a whole lot higher than meaningless visits to African countries
that are really pseudo-vacations for our annointed leader and his family and
friends. The money wasted on this trip alone would pay for a lot of mission
essential flight hours, and better care in the VA hospitals for our wounded
warriors.Meanwhile, in lieu of the flyover, let's spend the
time to actually read verbatim the entire Declaration of Independence. Remind
ourselves of they tyrannical usurpation of our rights which were being committed
then, and the refusal of free men to allow this to continue.
My favorite moment in the "Stadium of Fire" show, but it is not often
the word frugal and government co-exist, so that brings me some joy!
I love planes. I love fly-overs. However, it is nice to hear of these budget
This is all window dressing. these fly-overs could be used as normal training
sorties. All military pilots need a minimum number of hours to maintain their
qualification. This whole thing is a PR move to show the US citizens that we are
actually "cutting back" due to the sequestration. How about cutting
back on the flying time of the Congress and President?
