It's redundant to say Go Cougars and Go Utes in the same post.

Since 1972 BYU owns a 26-14 head to head record against the Utes!!! LaVell went 19-2 head to head against the Utes!!! Coach Whit is a great coach but unless he starts winning conference games and making some noise outside of Utah he will be run out of town!!! I find it funny that with only 4 titles, 2 in each conference, WAC/MWC, that Utah fans blast the teams BYU has played and beaten!!! Utah did not dominate the WAC/MWC, how are they going to do that in the PAC12?

    Go Cougs!!!
    Go Utes!!!

AZUTE, really? Go with whatever stats help little brother Utah? Again, SOS is meaningless without wins!

BYU's SOS was 63rd in 2012 out of 246 teams ranked by Sagarin, hardly bottom-half of the nation. Utah's SOS was 41st, so yes, Utah's schedule was more difficult. SOS doesn't mean much, as Arkansas' SOS was 9th, so was Arkansas better than Utah? Let me give you a hint - Sagarin ranked Arkansas 65th in 2012.

But Sagarin ranked BYU 26th and Utah 61st in 2012 which is relative strength of the teams and takes into account SOS wins and losses (but not how close the game is or BYU would have ranked higher). FIVE of BYU's opponents ended the year ranked in the top 25, unfortunately BYU only beat one of them.

Hey AZUTE, did you read the article? During the period these guys were talking about, BYU owned Utah.

2-Star byu's '12 SOS ranked within the bottom-half of the nation, their only decent win came, at home, barely by 3-PTS over usu, they lost 7 starters on D and Anae was previously run-off for being inept/incompetent! Not to mention 2-Star byu's inexperienced/injury-prone QB, combined with zero hope along their o-line, 2-Star byu is doomed!

They lose to Mighty Big Brother UTAH, annually, and they generally don't ever beat a good team! Expect a loooooooong season down there in utah county!

Seems like it has been a few years since BYU really had balanced program with a respectable offense and defense at the same time. For the past few years the defense carried the team. If we held the other team under 14 points we had a chance as we probably were not going to score more than 21 points on offense. Ever since Coach Mendenhall took back the defense we have been pretty darn good. It appears that Anae was given plenty of lattitude when it came to putting together his staff. This should result in better chemistry between the coaches which results in better chemistry with the players. We were too predictable last year. I expect that to change.

I agree the offensive line will make or break this season.

In regards to the offensive line I am cautiously optimistic. I feel like Coach Anae will make sure we have a strong and improving offensive line. This is a line with a lot of talent, but it lacks experience. This line is going to grow into itself I just hope it happens early in the season rather then latter.

Championship teams win the battle in the trenches and if BYU wants to make any noise this season its going to begin there both on defense and on offense.

"Someone once said offense will win games, but defense will win championships. You need both, no question about it."

With this years schedule as challenging as it is, it's time to put up or shut up on both sides of the ball! I'm still worried about the offense, what with all the new junior college transfers brought in to help. The quarterback situation is great with Taysom and Ammon who seemed both very capable, but quarterbacks are only as good as the line that protects them. That's where I worry the most. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed but not holding my breath. We've been disappointed too many times before with expectations against the better competitions that went unfulfilled. Lets' hope KVN and the boys go out in style this year! It would be so sweet!

Go Cougs! And good luck to the Utes too except when they play us!
