yet AZUTE1 wants us to believe that ASU was playing a bunch of bench players who

ASU batters must have simply stood in the

As for the SOS issue, yes, according to Boyd's World,
Utah's SOS is 21, BYU's is 58 (but BYU is ranked overall at 37th and
Utah at 119th). According to WarrenNolan.com (the top hit when I put in College
Baseball SOS 2013), Utah's is 88th and BYU's is 95th.
Both
of those kind of fly in the face of your statement that "BYU's SOS
isn't REMOTELY close to Utah's."
"Tis is truly
hysterical witnessing byu fans attempt in vain to spin it all."
The only spinning that I'm seeing is from some guy in Mesa who finds a
need to come onto a BYU/ASU baseball thread and make a bunch of inane excuses
about why the #13 ASU Sun Devils got it handed to them at home from some
"patsy" in the WCC.
Which I find extremely entertaining!

@AZUTE Well I just don't get it. Several of the posters did
compare SOS and RPI to Utah but not one of them has said anything about ASU. In

to a nice relaxing ball game against a patsy team on a quiet Tuesday or
Wednesday night when one of your favorite teams can get a dominating win over a
lowly conference nobody that you wouldn't waste a minute of your precious
life worrying about. Now, wouldn't that make you feel better. (Unless of
course your team lost to that lowly nobody. Then I can see how you just
possibly might get frustrated and rant and rave about silly things.) By the way
BYU respected ASU. So I guess they played their best pitcher as you say.
Wouldn't you if you were facing the #13 team in the country? As for
starting a nobody pitcher against a 30-19 nobody? Oops, bad move.

I'm not sure what you're trying to argue. It
looks like you're trying to make whiny excuses for why ASU, a team with
such a storied baseball tradition, lost to an overachieving BYU team.
Why not just congratulate the Cougars? BYU was picked to finish dead last in
the WCC before the season started. They have defied all expectations, are now
the 3rd seed in the WCC tournament, and are 5-4 this season against ranked
teams.
I'm sure ASU didn't put their ace pitcher out there
for yesterday's game. I KNOW that BYU didn't, they've got more
important things to worry about with the WCC tourney coming up.
So
I'm not sure what your point is there, especially since a "mighty"
PAC 12 team with such a "storied tradition" and ranked in the top 15
this year should have no problems beating a "patsy" from the WCC, even
without starting their stud pitcher (and with BYU not starting theirs, either).

I was also at the game and it was obvious on this particular
night that BYU was the better team. The Cougars built a 7-0 lead before the Sun
Devils even threatened. ASU may not have been using their best starting pitcher,
but that doesn't explain the lack of production from ASU's bats.
Arizona Central's account of the game said:
"The Sun
Devils (34-18-1) are 5-6 in their last 11 games going into a
regular-season-ending Pac-12 series at Washington (22-31, 13-14 Pac-12) starting
Friday. Their hopes of hosting a NCAA regional are gone and they need to regroup
against the Huskies simply to solidify their at-large position."
So even the Arizona press is saying that the Sun Devils still aren't a
lock for the NCAA tournament.
hmmmm
Any reasonable fan
would laugh at the suggestion that a team trying to solidify their at-large
position in the NCAA tourney would carelessly "throw away" one of their
last remaining regular season games simply because it was an unimportant
"mid-week" game.
AZUTE1Mesa, AZ

A dominating win would be KU beating byu, 15-4....Or USF beating byu, 11-1.
And since ASU beat ua on Saturday nigh, they've lost merely 2
straight games against overall the nation's 10th ranked SOS, 1 against the
def NCs and the other in a mid-week game against a patsy while starting a scrub
nobody pitcher.
ASU's typically already long been a lock for the
post-season, they've been a regular in Omaha throughout their
ELITE-history, have a staggering number of players in MLB, 5 NCs, play in
America's premier conf and you people are seriously comparing the two
teams, based solely upon byu's weak SOS, worse overall-record, ZERO history
in the sport nationally, most likely needing to gain the WCC's Auto-Bid, in
order to just simply make a brief post-season appearance and a mid-week game in
which ASU got a pitcher who rarely ever sees the field a feel-good start and
another pitcher his season-debut appearance while byu puts their best available
pitchers out there, desperate for a win in their attempt to qualify for what ASU
annually locks-up early in the season, qualifying for the post-seas.

@AZUTE Thank you for attending the game and supporting BYU Baseball as one
of the teams most ardent supporters. Your comments about BYU resting their
best pitchers, using end of the bench players and other wise playing it soft
midweek style should not detract from the fact that Arizona State does have a
great baseball team. If you comprehended College Baseball a little more you
might understand that winning games is the point of the process and no coach
gives out "gimmes" to anyone and that scheduling games by the AD's
is done to enhance that process. I don't understand how you think that
BYU playing on the weekend would be humiliating, unless you do it with an onside
kick when up by 21. Utah had their chance once again this season and as
always they put on good games and just came up short, again. They are a good
team also. As to an ASU-Utah weekend series, I will leave that to those two
teams to work out who would be better between them. As you should know, BYU has
nothing to do with those two teams playing each other on a weekday or weekend.

ASU batters must have simply stood in the batter's box and watched pitch after pitch sail by without even trying to hit the ball because they didn't care about winning their final home game of the season (for some their final career home game) in front of family and friends.
Face it AZUTE1, the Sun Devils were dominated by a better team last night, because we all know that the team that wins the head-to-head matchup is ALWAYS the better team.
@AZUTE
As for the SOS issue, yes, according to Boyd's World, Utah's SOS is 21, BYU's is 58 (but BYU is ranked overall at 37th and Utah at 119th). According to WarrenNolan.com (the top hit when I put in College Baseball SOS 2013), Utah's is 88th and BYU's is 95th.
Both of those kind of fly in the face of your statement that "BYU's SOS isn't REMOTELY close to Utah's."
"Tis is truly hysterical witnessing byu fans attempt in vain to spin it all."
The only spinning that I'm seeing is from some guy in Mesa who finds a need to come onto a BYU/ASU baseball thread and make a bunch of inane excuses about why the #13 ASU Sun Devils got it handed to them at home from some "patsy" in the WCC.
Which I find extremely entertaining!
Looking through the comments, all I see are BYU fans that are excited about another win over a top 25 team and the possibility of making the NCAA tournament this year.
Not bad for a BYU team that was picked to finish last in the WCC.
So enjoy the ride, AZUTE. No need to hate.
@AZUTE
Well I just don't get it. Several of the posters did compare SOS and RPI to Utah but not one of them has said anything about ASU. In fact they have been complimentary so far as I can tell. Perhaps you need to go to a nice relaxing ball game against a patsy team on a quiet Tuesday or Wednesday night when one of your favorite teams can get a dominating win over a lowly conference nobody that you wouldn't waste a minute of your precious life worrying about. Now, wouldn't that make you feel better. (Unless of course your team lost to that lowly nobody. Then I can see how you just possibly might get frustrated and rant and rave about silly things.) By the way BYU respected ASU. So I guess they played their best pitcher as you say. Wouldn't you if you were facing the #13 team in the country? As for starting a nobody pitcher against a 30-19 nobody? Oops, bad move.
@AZUTE1
I'm not sure what you're trying to argue. It looks like you're trying to make whiny excuses for why ASU, a team with such a storied baseball tradition, lost to an overachieving BYU team.
Why not just congratulate the Cougars? BYU was picked to finish dead last in the WCC before the season started. They have defied all expectations, are now the 3rd seed in the WCC tournament, and are 5-4 this season against ranked teams.
I'm sure ASU didn't put their ace pitcher out there for yesterday's game. I KNOW that BYU didn't, they've got more important things to worry about with the WCC tourney coming up.
So I'm not sure what your point is there, especially since a "mighty" PAC 12 team with such a "storied tradition" and ranked in the top 15 this year should have no problems beating a "patsy" from the WCC, even without starting their stud pitcher (and with BYU not starting theirs, either).
@AZUTE1
Actually, what's hilarious is watching your epic meltdown after the Cougars blew out the Sun Devils in Tempe.
This is awesome! You have 8 of the (now) 18 comments on this board. Keep it coming! This is extremely entertaining!
Go Cougars!
AZUTE1
I was also at the game and it was obvious on this particular night that BYU was the better team. The Cougars built a 7-0 lead before the Sun Devils even threatened. ASU may not have been using their best starting pitcher, but that doesn't explain the lack of production from ASU's bats.
Arizona Central's account of the game said:
"The Sun Devils (34-18-1) are 5-6 in their last 11 games going into a regular-season-ending Pac-12 series at Washington (22-31, 13-14 Pac-12) starting Friday. Their hopes of hosting a NCAA regional are gone and they need to regroup against the Huskies simply to solidify their at-large position."
So even the Arizona press is saying that the Sun Devils still aren't a lock for the NCAA tournament.
hmmmm
Any reasonable fan would laugh at the suggestion that a team trying to solidify their at-large position in the NCAA tourney would carelessly "throw away" one of their last remaining regular season games simply because it was an unimportant "mid-week" game.
A dominating win would be KU beating byu, 15-4....Or USF beating byu, 11-1.
And since ASU beat ua on Saturday nigh, they've lost merely 2 straight games against overall the nation's 10th ranked SOS, 1 against the def NCs and the other in a mid-week game against a patsy while starting a scrub nobody pitcher.
ASU's typically already long been a lock for the post-season, they've been a regular in Omaha throughout their ELITE-history, have a staggering number of players in MLB, 5 NCs, play in America's premier conf and you people are seriously comparing the two teams, based solely upon byu's weak SOS, worse overall-record, ZERO history in the sport nationally, most likely needing to gain the WCC's Auto-Bid, in order to just simply make a brief post-season appearance and a mid-week game in which ASU got a pitcher who rarely ever sees the field a feel-good start and another pitcher his season-debut appearance while byu puts their best available pitchers out there, desperate for a win in their attempt to qualify for what ASU annually locks-up early in the season, qualifying for the post-seas.
Funny how the Utah fans still can't bear to capitalize BYU. The infantile attempts to insult BYU say much about the trolls and nothing about BYU. Ute trolls biggest joke is when they say to themselves, stay classy.
azute1
An 8-3 win is a DOMINATING win in anyone's book, except for, apparently, yours.
AZUTE1
LOL at your jealous, whiny excuse making.
As usual, BYU is having a MUCH better season than Utah in yet another sport, and the only excuse you can come up with is the Sun Devils "saving" themselves because it's always good strategy to enter your final regular season series on a four-game losing streak, especially when you're fighting to get a good seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament.
Do you actually believe your whiny spin?
When I see the following posted, clarification is in order--
"....especially with this dominating victory over ASU."
Tis is truly hysterical witnessing byu fans attempt in vain to spin it all.
Pitchers need rest and the best are reserved for the more imp wk games.
ASU started a kid who'd pitched less than 20 innings all season long and was in when the bulk of byu's damage was done[5 earned runs]....Coach TE has no choice but get these other kids experience midweek when mid-tier, inferior competion such as weak WCC byu huts town.
As evidence in support of how desperaty important byu viewed this game, they threw a kid for 5 innings who's logged roughly 50 innings on the season and replaced w/a kid who's equally experienced for another 2 innings, etc....ASU's final ptcher for the game made his season-debut....LOL
Current SOS rankings have byu's at #58 and trending weaker going forward, with UTAH's currently sitting at #21 and trending stronger with Top-10 UO hitting town this week.
ASU's SOS currently sits at #10.
@AZUTE
Silly comments I know. But then so were mine. Don't you think we should not make silly comments intended just to stir up the other fellow. It's not helpful except to generate a few laughs once in a while. Support your team, enjoy the entertainment of sport and let's be good sports.
What are you talking about in backing-out? Which baseball games are you referencing? And NO, byu's SOS doesn't even remotely compare to UTAH's....LOL
And UTAH welcomes Top-10 UO into S.L.C. this weekend, to boot.
I didn't see even one, single team from the utterly WEAK WCC ranked.
What was that regarding SOS?
@AZUTE
Thank you for attending the game and supporting BYU Baseball as one of the teams most ardent supporters.
Your comments about BYU resting their best pitchers, using end of the bench players and other wise playing it soft midweek style should not detract from the fact that Arizona State does have a great baseball team.
If you comprehended College Baseball a little more you might understand that winning games is the point of the process and no coach gives out "gimmes" to anyone and that scheduling games by the AD's is done to enhance that process.
I don't understand how you think that BYU playing on the weekend would be humiliating, unless you do it with an onside kick when up by 21.
Utah had their chance once again this season and as always they put on good games and just came up short, again. They are a good team also. As to an ASU-Utah weekend series, I will leave that to those two teams to work out who would be better between them. As you should know, BYU has nothing to do with those two teams playing each other on a weekday or weekend.
AZUTE1
BYU lost one game to Kansas but took 2 of 3 from the Jayhawks in a weekend series.
Yes, SOS matters and figures into RPI rankings where BYU is in the 50s while Utah is in the 150s. BYU and Utah's SOS are about identical this year.
In terms of scheduling, Utah is the team known for backing out of scheduling games with BYU, not the other way around.

We'd win the PAC 12 if we were in it.
I know it....Akin to being the true NC in Football, annually.
We'd win the PAC 12 if we were in it.
I'd seriously love to see byu have the courage to schedule UTAH/ASU in a true weekend-series, instead. Too chicken to make it happen.
I was in attendance tonight. YAAAAWN. If you comprehended College Baseball, you'd know how these mid-week games work. Schools save their top pitchers for the weekend and oftentimes kids play who are otherwise buried deep down into the dugout during their important weekend-games.
Case in point, review last season's results for eventual NC ua and their mid-week games at home against NMSU. They got absolutely obliterated by NMSU, yet won The CWS w/their best pitchers/starters playing the entirety of each game.
However, hollow, meaningless victories such as this one are precisely what fuels the utter self-delusion running rampant in utah county, year-round. I'd be shocked not seeing you all giddy about it. Schedule ASU for a weekend-series and byu gets utterly humiliated.
byu played LSU twice, going 1-1 and not posting any other victory down there....Their only victories of significance were winning 2 of 3 fron UCI, which just dropped from the rankings....They played UTAH/ASU in midweek games and had only their weak conf weekends....As in football/basketball, SOS matters....Shocking, I know....KU curb-stomped byu and got swept by UTAH in a weekend series.
I don't understand why this team is a bubble team. With their winning record against ranked teams and taking the series from nonconference teams like Creighton, Kansas, and Utah, this BYU team should be a shoo-in for a tournament berth.
I hope they win the WCC tournament and the automatic berth, but the Cougars really have already done enough to earn an at-large bid, especially with this dominating victory over ASU.
Good to see Cougar Baseball extending the Cougar Rep. Go Cougars, take the WCC tournament! Here is to making the NCAA playoffs and having a fantastic Run.
It's great to be a Cougar fan.
