    @Chris B

You couldn't be more wrong. Nelson is an amazing QB. Which he wouldn't have been had he stayed at USU. Heaps was an absolute joke. And Sorenson is the best QB in the state and had a great college carrer at SUU.

    Jay -

Did Brian Johnson play in the NFL?

    I rest my case....

Sorenson the first? What about Lennie Waltershiede out of Moab and SUU? Was he drafted or sign as an undrafted player> He was on the Chicago Bears in the 80's I believe.

As a Denver Broncos fan this isn't good news for us. Think Sorenson's prospects are pretty good. But even worse, think the acquisition of Te'o will prove to be one the biggest draft steals of all-time. Darn Chargers!

How BYU's fortunes might have changed if this was the QB at the helm!

Though I like BYU, it is fair to question Bronco because he has blown it when evaluating player potential.

Cougar fans please ignore the first post here. Definitely not from a “Utah Man”.
Congrats to Sorenson. Hopefully things will work out for him and he can join the likes of Hall of Famers Bart Star (17th round) and Johnny Unitas (Taken in the 9th round).
He sounds like he has the accuracy of Lee Grosscup and the strength of Scott Mitchell.
    Great story.

Great news for this guy and great news for SUU. It is sad that politics has plagued BYU so much that it has lost a lot of opportunity in developing great qb's as of recently and they miss opportunities like this. James Lark is another guy who got overlooked by BYU.

It looks like the Chargers are looking for someone other than Charlie Whitehurst to back up PhilIip Rivers.Sorensen at age 25 will see a limited career either in front of or behind Whitehurst. Best of luck to him.

Hopefully he makes the Chargers roster. Rivers certainly struggles a lot.

I understand why BYU passed up on this stud, but what was Utah's EXCUSE? Utah hasn't had a QB since Smith!

Actually Sorenson was recruited by BYU so I guess in a way, that shoots down Chris B's personal attack on Coach Mendenhall. In two years that same may apply if Jake Heaps is drafted.

I very much agree with AZ Blue & Red. Chris B's tirades against BYU and Coach Mendenhall get very tiring. I often wonder if Chris Hill and Kyle Whittingham are embarrassed by these kind of people who continually post hateful comments toward the rival school and coaches.

I personally believe the State of Utah is blessed with very good universities and colleges. Only a few bad apple fans sour what are classy schools and athletic programs.

I'm sooooo glad this guy got drafted. Big guy, arm like a cannon, hard worker. I hope he gets an honest chance to show what he can do.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

It was fun watching Sorenson put SUU on the football map. I am glad he was drafted and San Diego could be a good team for him.

BTW, SUU is Division I-FCS and not Division III. Nobody in Utah is Division III. SUU has athletic scholarships--about 60 of them for football. Division III does not allow any for any sport.

I think this is a good story of how a kid was in the right place at the wrong time. Would he have been a good QB at BYU? At the time the jury was out but now we know probably yes. I do not blame him for what he did. Life and work is like that too. Often it is timing not talent. Royce Bybee who was All American at Ricks who comes to BYU and gets behind Jim McMahon and never plays. I am convinced he would have been one of the greats at BYU if he had been in front of McMahon and not behind. No discredit to Jim. Steve Young behind Joe Montana. We could debate who was the better QB there but when he got his chance look what he did.

Congrats to Sorensen. Make it on the Chargers Team. We will be watching.

Chris B do you ever say anything nice about BYU? Can you not see it is a class program that is not your favorite team? I do not trash the U. GREAT team and program. Stupid choices at times too. Hindsight is 20/20.

Bronco was way smarter to develop Riley Nelson and hake heaps like he did instead of Sorensen.

With bronco's record of ZERO of recruits that have been drafted, I bet brad is very happy he made it out of Provo and to cedar city, where he would have a better chance of being drafted playing division III ball
