Yes lets shut all copper minds down and see what happens to the price of anything copper. Pipes, wiring, semiconductors (all your toys), money, industry etc etc etc. Also the price of other metals as they get so many precious metals looking for copper. Shut them all down too. Watch all your gold things go flying. Let's also stop all cars, factories, electricity plants as well to really put a handle on polution and water usage. Can't even go camping as a fire smokes too much. Forget the burritos too. Might cause methane.

And please define a real job. What do these workers do dance all day? Teach school to their fellow workers or sit at a desk and look at computer screens? So what is a real job?

Keep them working and keep the needed basic materials for our world.

Stating that Kennecott has not had layoffs since 2003 is inaccurate. They have had periodic layoffs of smaller groups of people every time they got in a financial mess and stockholders weren't happy. It just didn't hit the news media. The last one they had was in October 2012. I know, because after 20 years of working there I was laid off and forced into early retirement, so were numerous others laid off then as well. They used the mishandling of investment monies by the Rio Tinto CEO at the time on the Alcan Mine, as a reason to dump people in 2012.

Just shut the entire mine down. It uses way too busy water and pollutes the air. Shut it down. Let those workers find real jobs.
