What amazing character this team showed. And I have to give credit to Coach McGown for making a critical substitution at the setter position. Sander and Patch had a slow start because they were getting few good sets to them. When Tyler Heap replaced Boyce at setter in the 3rd set, the difference in the performance by the hitters was clearly visible. It absolutely turned the momentum of the game in BYU's favor. Gutsy and correct call by the coach. Tyler Heap made some freshman mistakes but overall set beautifully and was the key factor in the Cougar comeback. He was the unsung hero of this match. This team is deeper than I thought.

Josue Rivera picked the perfect time to have his best game, as Patch and Sander were struggling. I am still waiting for Sander to "show up" for this tournament. Part of the problem is Boyce doesn't dish him the ball much anymore.

Wow, it really is a great time for BYU sports! We have teams shooting for national titles in multiple sports, and the best part of it all: we get to watch it all live on BYUtv. Good luck to all our athletes and teams--especially volleyball and rugby--as they shoot for national championships!

This win was, indeed, huge. Not only does it assure BYU of getting to the NCAA playoffs, but, as was mentioned above, it almost certainly means UCLA--by far the most dangerous team in the MPSF right now--won't be there to spoil the party. I'd put the Cougs' odds of winning the national championship now at about 5-3, which would be a fitting end to the only season in which Sander and Patch will play together. (Patch is going on a mission, isn't he?)

Volleyball is a harrowing sport in which momentum can turn on a dime, but one thing I like about the MPSF--and the NCAA--is that every match counts. A team has to be in the top eight just to get to the conference tournament, and the #1 seed gets to play every tournament match at home. Moreover, no one can just coast into the NCAA tournament.

I stand corrected. I knew that. It just gets to be too much to follow all the great teams BYU has and remember who is playing who. Volleball, Rugby, Tennis, Golf, Baseball, Track and field, News about Ziggy, how do we keep up with it all.

"Now, how to spend Saturday? Watch Volleyball vs Long Beach or Rugby vs UCLA?"

Just a small correction. BYU Rugby already defeated UCLA 69 - 8 last Saturday at UCLA. Their opponent this coming Saturday is Central Washington (the team that replaced Utah).

This win was HUGE for BYU. It almost certainly knocks UCLA out of going to the Final Four in LA next week, which UCLA hosts. Now that BYU doesn't have to deal with UCLA on it's home court, the odds of a national championship for BYU are high! I hope Cougar fans pack Pauley Pavilion!!

BYU didn't play well in the first two sets. However, the comeback to win three sets in a row was very exciting to watch. Hopefully, the Cougars can keep the momentum going against a Long Beach State team that is also hungry to win the conference's automatic bid. The Beach features the son of former BYU basketball great, Michael Smith.

Wow, it was a perfect Thursday night of sports entertainment for me. I kept switching back and forth between BYU tv and ESPN because I didn't want to miss who will take Star Lotulelei in the draft. I was somewhat disappointed because I truly thought, based on reports, that he would probably go higher than Ziggy. Anyhow, once Carolina took him, I stayed with BYU tv until the game was over. And boy what a gutsy performance by those no name Cougs! At first I thought there was no way they could come back with the way UCLA was playing lights out on the first two sets. But then the boys in blue woke up and boy what a comeback! It's the kind of performance that truly eases the pain of insults from all the BYU haters.

Oooodalala!!! Looking forward to Saturday! Go Cougars!

Those first two sets were gut wrenching as UCLA wouldn't make a mistake and clearly had great middle hitters. I just about turned out the lights. But I stayed with it and was mildly surprised that the Cougars had such an easy time in the third set. But I didn't get my hopes up until the end of the fourth set. What a gutsy performance! The fifth set was enough to remove the last hair on my head in handfuls, rearrange the furniture and take the rest of my extended family hostage. What an amazing comeback!!! If you missed it you missed one for the ages. It would be like watching Custer and his last three men making a comeback to win.
Now, how to spend Saturday? Watch Volleyball vs Long Beach or Rugby vs UCLA? How do you keep your National Championship drives sorted out? So much to do when you're a Cougar fan.

What a gutsy performance! Never seen UCLA play better than in the first 2 sets. BYU showed that they want it more! WOW!
