Wasatch lost in 2012 to a very good Dixie team in the Semifinals. The southern schools deserve as much press coverage in the Deseret News as anyone. Somebody in southern Utah needs to start writing articles and submit them to the paper. Ogden, Juan Diego, Park City, Judge and anyone of the top four teams from Region 9 are capable of winning out. The 3A tournament will be a fun experience to watch. There is really good soccer being played in 3A.

I think with the internet taking over news, that staffs at all media outlets are a little thinner, so utilizing local reporters will become more common place. For some unknown reason no one here at the Park Record will post their stories on Dnews, but lots on the trib site.

afi1- maybe someone down south at your local paper could start doing some stories, that's all the guy from Heber is doing, he's submitting his stories to the Dnews and they publish them.

Most of the articles covering Wasatch are by the same writer who covers sports for the Wasatch Wave in Heber. I think most of the D news articles focus on Wasatch Front players, with a human interest slant and they do a pretty decent job. Their focus is mostly the 5A / 4A due to readership numbers, but in 3A they also look at Juan Diego, Judge, and Park City.

As for afil's comment about Uintah being one of the worst teams in the state, you obviously haven't done your homework. Despite being shutout by so-called Reg 9 powerhouses Hurricane and D Hills early in the season, they have improved. They would handle Canyon View and Reg 11 teams Stansbury, Tooele, Morgan, and Grantsville who all help Ogden pad their stats and make them look like Real Juniors! While there are a few weaker teams in Region 10, the Wasps are consistently one of the best in 3A. 2010 = state runner-up, 2011 = STATE CHAMPS!, 2012 = best record in state (but lost in quarterfinals to Dixie, the champ), and 2013 = undefeated and looking good in tough Reg 10.

Why is there a huge article about the #1 team beating one of the worst teams in state? There are constant articles about wasatch. I agree they are an excellent team but there are others decent teams in the state. The desnews writes almost 100% of their soccer stories about wasatch. Oh Well I guess they do the same thing with all of byu's sports. 9 out of 10 sports articles about them....
