The child's grandmother told the Deseret News Saturday that her stepdaughter and the child's mother, broke up with Petersen Tuesday, which she said may have driven Petersen to what she called "insanity." Johnson said he did not know what might have been the motive for the shooting.

I think he was taking SSRI anti-depressants.

In the meanwhile - the gun lobby says criminals and the mentally ill should have free and unfettered access to any gun they want.

    Who's the one "insane"?

    The one pulling the trigger?
The one giving him the gun?

Women need to pay attention to this. When you finally have the courage and wisdom to end it with an abusive man, just get out. Take the kids and get out. Don't discuss it with him, don't leave the kids with him. Flee!! The more time you spend talking to him about it, the more opportunities he gets to hurt you and your kids - and your pets.
The abuse increases dramatically when you try to get free. Just flee! Quietly figure it out ahead of time and flee.
I speak from experience. It was very hard, but I did it. He is on his third wife now - I was his first. When wife #2 decided to get out, he was even more scary with her. The abuse you see in the relationship is the tip of the iceberg compared to what you will see as you are getting out. Scary.
    just flee

Tolstoy; you're right. If there was knowledge that the child had been abused, it should have been reported. The mother of the child had just broken off relationship with the father, in another article, it speculates that this was his way of retaining control of the child and the mother. What a sad story.

Many people do not watch or listen to the local 'news'. It is always sad, tragic events that make 'news'.

By contrast, I watched the LDS church world news between conference sessions and was edified and uplifted with the feeling that the earth was being prepared to be renewed and receive it's paradisical glory.*

To gain knowledge and learn truth. Because the knowledge of truth is power. Truth may not always be happy or pretty but with it, we have the power to make informed decisions about how to lead our lives, influence others and try avoid the ugly truths.
