Utah doesn't play either Washington or California next year. Those two teams are replaced by Stanford and Oregon; but since you had them chalked up as losses anyway, your results are the same. Have to disagree with the win against BYU however. BYU has been better than Utah overall the past two seasons, this year they'll win the actual matchup and the Utes will have to chew on it for 3 years since they decided to ease their schedule by dropping BYU.

"Your guarenteed wins should be Utah State, Northern Colorado, Colorado, Washington State and since you are a Utah fan I will give you the BYU game. That's 4 and the others, where?"

Washington State is more likely than Colorado to beat the Utes, and as Chris B proudly proclaimed, Utah is 1-1 against their new rival. I'd say it may be a little too soon to predict a victory over either cougar.

Other than that, I love your logic!

If Pikula and Unga can do as well as Kavienga and Ogletree (and I think they can) then BYU will be dominating on defense again. They even have significantly better physical tools for their spots. Both atr 6'1" tall which means a bigger wingspan and more interference (QB will find it tougher to throw over and around those guys compared to 4 & 44 who were at best two inches shorter).

    UtahBruin--Nope! Cougs wins this one.

    Utes may win three.

I agree with Duckhunter. Our linebackers are the best in the country.

True, but BYU didn't drop Utah to schedule Michigan.

ESPN reports that BYU is building street cred as an indy.

    1. Since BYU became an independent for the 2011 season, the questions hanging over the Cougars have been whether athletic director Tom Holmoe would be a) able and b) willing to schedule games worthy of a national independent. Good news: home-and-homes with Virginia (announced Monday), Notre Dame, Texas, and Wisconsin, and a long-term deal with Boise State. Bad news: the Holy War against Utah, played annually since 1946, won’t be played in 2014-15. Utah, playing Michigan those two years, begged out.

It's going to be a brutal two-year hiatus for our timid little brothers, finishing at the bottom of the PAC and not even having an opportunity to salvage their season with a lucky win over their big brothers.

Hey Utah fans, how is that swimming thing working out? Seems you should be spending more time with that than wondering about BYU linebackers.

Mr. Bee: The PAC just called....they said you forgot your snorkel. You may need it this year because you will be deeeeeeeeeeeep on the bottom.

    @Chris B

    8-4 do you figure?

Northern Colorado - Yep, tough one, but you'll slip by. Win
Utah State - I am thinking more like last year but alright. Win
BYU - Not a fan of either, but I will even give it to you although I doubt it. Win
    Arizona State - Loss
    USC - Loss
    UCLA - Loss, Oops you're now 3-3 after a perfect 3-0 start
    Oregon State - Loss
California - Won't be like last year. Loss
Washington State - I think they will be turning around soon, but here ya go. Win
Washington - Loss, and to an old BYU coach. Ouch!
Arizona - I don't think so but I have to fit an upset win in here somehow, so Win.
Colorado - If you lose to these guys again in three years, just stop the football program. Win

You just finished 6-6, that would be the best you can do, so 5-7 and even 4 and 8 is a possibility. But 8-4, against who????? Your guarenteed wins should be Utah State, Northern Colorado, Colorado, Washington State and since you are a Utah fan I will give you the BYU game. That's 4 and the others, where?

It's always fun to see how little Chris B knows about Utah football. I sure hope BYU can finally beat Utah. I'm tired of losing to my less talented alma mater (Utes). Go Cougars and Utes and Aggies and Wildcats! Decide this on the field.

You keep talking about the seniors at BYU being 0-4 against Utah. Incorrect as many of the seniors already have a win against Utah. Remember the whole mission thing. Sorry to burst your bubble, but you make it way too easy. Many of this years seniors were freshmen 5 years ago.

    "we'll be 8-4"

Only in your dreams. The Utes will have to get very lucky just to qualify for a bowl. Unfortunately for U, you won't even having the satisfaction of winning your September bowl game in Provo this year.

Even if 4-8 did happen(it won't, we'll be 8-4), one thing is for certain: a Utah victory in the former(for utah) rivalry. We own you. Your seniors next year will be a perfect 0-4 against Utah. I wonder how that feels.

    P.S. Big 12 call yet?

    @ "proud" ute

u only wish that utah had 1/4 of the LB talent BYU has. This isnt even debatable by the way. BYU routinely churns out excellent college LB's whereas

Are you preparing yourself for another 5-7 next year? If so you'll be sorely disappointed as 4-8, or even 3-9, are much more likely.

Grammar and "spelling" police are as abundant as u trolls today who seem to be slipping and in need of personal qualifiers for excuses themselves.

This article is all about why I love amateur sports. There is always a pipeline of incoming players who battle for playing time and the veterans are for the most part great mentors and examples. Each season brings new challenges, excitement and anticipation for what might be a special year. Good luck to the men at the battle line and to the reserves who will follow in coming seasons.

Thanks Brandon for the great look past and forward.

@zorro - champing is the correct term, chomping is not.

The defense is shaping up to be as good as last year, and we will need it with the tough schedule. Go Cougs!

Need to start slipping the qualifiers in now so they can be pulled up later as excuses when needed.

isnt the term "chomping at the bit"?

    March 11, 2013 9:54 p.m.

Tough shoes to fill, but best of luck to all the new starters!

"So far this spring, Pikula has been spelling Ogletree at the Buck linebacker spot with Uani Unga spelling Kaveinga as the starting Mike linebacker." Seems like an odd use of the word 'spelling' which is normally used to relieve someone or give them a 'breather'. Doesn't make sense to me to spell someone who isn't even there. Has the usage changed since I played team sports?
