I admire and respect the Tibetan community along with their desire for a
homeland free of repression. However, the likelihood of Tibet becoming
independent is less than that of Texas being returned to Mexico. With 55
recognized minorities in China, allowing one group, no matter how valid their
claim to independence, such freedom would open the door for others. The Chinese
leadership would be accused of weakness among other things and they would not
allow this to happen. Regretfully, it is not open to negotiation at present.
