Congrats to the Red Rocks, always a competitor in this venue.

I never seen this many comments on a women's sports story for the Utes. I guess beating BYU as a headline makes the downtroddened Ute football and basketball fans want to chest beat over something during the winter doldrums.

"Most colleges don't even have a men's volleyball team."

Even fewer have a co-ed ski team.

UCLA, USC and Stanford all have Men's Volleyball teams.

With all of their PAC 12 money, the Utes don't have any excuses for not adding Men's Volleyball, along with Track & Field, and Cross-Country.

It's embarrassing how few sport the Utes compete in, yet they still aren't very good at the few they do compete in.

Riddles, I'm failing to find anything in Mt Olympus' comment about skiing. But I'll humor your bet: Miles Havlick from the men's and one named Rose from the women's (can't recall her last name). What do I win? Gonna challenge your other incorrect statement: "Utah men's national championships - ZERO." Utah's men's ski team won in 1981 before men's and women's were combined into the same championship. Anyway, what do volleyball and skiing have to do with gymnastics? Just looking for an argument? Thought so.

Great meet, Red Rocks! Sometimes the toughest times to perform well are when you're not challenged by your opponents at all, but they still put up a great score, and helped raise BYU's performance as well. Good job to all the ladies in the meet!

    Most championships this century:

BYU Men's Volleyball - TWO (looking good for a 3rd)
Utah Women's Gymnastics - NONE (little chance this year)

Utah has a great gymnastics program, always competitive at the national level, but the Red Rocks haven't won a national championship in almost 20 years.

As far as Utah men's national championships - ZERO.

    Mt. Olympus

"No one cares about Men's volleyball. Most colleges don't even have a men's volleyball team."

Blame Title IX for the lack of Men's Volleyball programs, but there's far more interest and competition in Men's Volleyball than in Co-ed Skiing.

BYU averages between 4,000 and 5,000 fans per game every year and nearly every home game is nationally televised. It's doubtful ANYBODY except for family and friends attends Utah ski meets and I've never seen one televised. Without looking it up, I'll bet there's not a single person on this blog who could name even one member of Utah's ski team.

Yes, Utah has a really good gymnastics program. BYU's isn't bad, but it clearly isn't up to the level of the Red Rocks.

    And after gymnastics, Utah has.........................

    Re: Marked it Down

No one cares about Men's volleyball. Most colleges don't even have a men's volleyball team.

Utah women's gymnastics average crowd for 2012 was 14,350
BYU men's volleyball largest season average for attendance was 4,750

    @Marked it Down

Why is Utah's performance in gymnastics a "yawner"? I saw the Red Rocks last week against Stanford (where Lia Del Priore got a perfect 10.0 on the floor.) It was anything but a yawner! The girls must work exceptionally hard to be so good. And that goes for BYU, NC State, Stanford, etc. They deserve as much praise as any male sport.

Volleyball smack on a gymnastics article, seriously?? Looking for a consolation prize I suppose.

Great pics by the Deseret News. BYU's uniforms are light blue and black. Did BYU change their colors again?

Oh yes Marked it Down, volleyball is so incredibly exciting. I heard that ESPN signed both collegiate and pro volleyball to multi-billion dollar TV contracts.

In reality, volleyball has less national and worldwide appeal than gymnastics. Just look at the Olympics for example, which sport gets more TV coverage?

Marked it down, the Utes handled the Cougars easily, that's how they roll. Far more people (based upon attendance and number of teams that participate) care about women's gymnastics than men's volleyball which I think fields a grand total of 23 teams; so everyone is ranked in the top 25 even if they lose every game/set.

Nice job Utah! The winning streak against BYU is 30+ and the all-time record is something like 89-2. Unbelievable how one-sided it has been in this particular sport.

I'm not sure why NC St. was there. It was completely outclassed by both Utah schools.

Congrats Lady Cougars on a good showing against the Red Rocks!

While Utah was busy taking down BYU in women's gymnastics in another yawner, #2 BYU was busy taking
down #1 UC Irvine on road in 5 games after going down 0-2 in men's volleyball.

That's the way we roll at BYU!
