I like the idea floating around DC right now. Since the sequester was Obama's idea, how about Congress passing a law that gives Obama the responsibility of finding the places to cut spending. Let Obama own the cuts.

the house has passed budgets, they die in the obstructionist dem senate. BO GOT his tax increase, but rather than work to find spending cuts, he laid out MORE spending in the state of the disunion speech.

the repubs have compromised; when will BO?

and if it was the wars that caused the deficits, tell me why the deficits are HIGHER now when they are winding down than when when they were going full bore?

$700 billion for bank buddies? No, banks have paid back MORE than they recieved - it was the auto and fannie and freddie bailouts that took the majority. and what of BO's failed $700B porkulus? You REALLY compare a $100B bush plan to a $700 billion porkulus from BO? You see them as the same?

Anyone who blames one side over the other is just in denial. This is on all parties. No one wants to compromise, and are willing to take their chances in upcoming elections, all at the expense of everyone else. Is it scare tactics? Maybe we will find out. We will also find out who the people blame in a couple of years. Should be interesting!

    BYU Alum,

Who cares whose idea it was the republican house voted for it, so that makes them responsible for it becoming law. Contrary to what House Republicans will tell you, the President isn't able to make law, they are. It is time to grow up (both parties) come together for the American people. The leading economists have almost all said the greatest drag on the economy is the United States congress and their unwillingness to create a budget. By the way that includes both democrats and republicans.

The best thing we could do in this country right now is for people in each district start a recall petition on every single member of congress and start over.

The Scare-questor is Obama's idea He owns it. It's a measly 2% cut in spending. If we can't cut two pennies out of every dollar spent, we might as well start the US bankruptcy proceedings now. 2% is a drop in the bucket and not nearly enough, but it's a start. I am so tired of the lies and scare tactics coming from the President about this. There is not a government agency that can't cut 2% and still function. Man up and deal with it.

Seeing the two governors in the picture reminds me how Governor Christie helped defeat Governor Romney in the last Presidential election. He strolled around with the President to give the President all that visibility the normal media publicized for 24 hours a day leading up to the election. The Republicans are part of that bad marriage due to their being disconnected in all the different states and nationally. The President may deceive people with his messages, policies and intent but the Republicans haven't done a good job of contradicting what the President says. The President does have a skillful team from the Chicago bunch that knows how to throw the punch with the President's skill at delivering the message via the teleprompter. The President's tone of voice never changes over the past 4 years. He always speaks down to people when he makes public statements. He speaks similar to leaders in the various countries I lived in that had dictatorial type of leaders with the military in those places as the police force to enforce the laws. I saw people taken out of their homes and have been stopped with a rifle in my ribs. The NRA has purpose.

"BYUalum -- Obama, stop giving away free stuff"

You mean like Bush's Medicaid Part D that was un unfunded mandate costing TRILLIONS?
Tax cuts that weren't paid for?
    Multiple Stimulus packages?
2 unfunded wars he couldn't end and never paid for costing TRILLIONS?
    700 Billion for bank buddies?

When I was a Republican I ask how we were going to pay for this spending and I was shouted down as "unpatriotic". The show is on your foot now Republicans. The cuts are spending cuts and you need to stop whining and take your own medicine and stop pretending that only one party is responsible for spending. All of us were.

Sequestration was Obama's original idea, and now he is blaming Republicans for it. This man makes the media believe anything he says today and forgets about anything he said yesterday and last year, etc. And, crazy enough, the public buys it hook, line, and sinker. Poor memories, Americans. Remember when he said he was going to "fundamentally transform America." Here is comes. Forget his cutting back on $20M vacations to Hawaii and $1,000/hr. golf lessons with Tiger. This is the real "meaty" stuff. Note his big scare tactics.

Obama, stop giving away free stuff for political gain and run a balanced budget. Congress should pass something that makes him solely responsible for every cut made. Then he won't be able to blame Republicans and GWB. He needs to start taking responsibility and stop campaigning.

The GOP has shown they can't lead but they can obstruct. House Republicans played a huge part in creating this mess and in the new congress have passed no legislation to address it. Doing nothing and letting Sequestration happen is the GOP's show of leadership on the issue. They're setting themselves up for a huge National defeat in 2014. Good Ridinance.

Republicans wanted spending cuts, they have been screeching for cuts. Now the cuts are happening and they are complaining. Take your medicine and like it you deficit hawks that were no where to be found when 3 Republican Presidents ran up the debt.

This is why I am no longer a Republican, the party is filled with people who loved to create unfunded obligations and blame someone else for them such as 2 wars, medicaid part D and bank bailouts. Then they act as hypocrites by pretending they didn't help create it.

We all helped create the problem and we are all going to have to have shared pain in cutting our spending.

Hey Gary, if gov't gridlock is a bad marriage (which it is), who leaves first? The gov't or me? I mean, if I leave, the gov't gets the hovel, the 1973 Pinto (all I could afford), etc. I won't be allowed to take anything with me. I guess it is still a 'man's' world.
