Actually I disagree with Idablu. I think the setter position is stronger this year than since Carlos Moreno. The guy got several one-on-ones for his hitters--Sanders and Patch had a field day out of the back row, and that only works if you establish Lavaja in the middle. We dominated Hawaii in transition points, which is better than the sideout volleyball I feel like we played last year. Kaliakamoa was a great setter with a lot of height, but he didn't execute a game plan as well as Boyce does. And Boyce had 6 blocks last game (6 foot 1 is not problem when your vert is 40 inches). All in all I am excited like you for this year. We've got an all-american outside, a fantastic opposite, and Lavaja wreaking havoc in the middle, all with an experienced quarterback in Boyce at the helm. We should go far. Now if they play with a chip on their shoulder, we will dominate.

I wish byutv could figure out a way to broadcast all the home volleyball games, even if it means a delayed broadcast on nights (like Saturday) when the basketball team is being broadcast live at the same time. I saw Friday night's match and this BYU volleyball team is really exciting.

I am very impressed with Ben Patch. He has great hops and hits with a ton of power. He needs to work on his defense, but this kid is going to be very, very good as Sander's heir apparent. I think we are still a little weak at the setter position, but overall this is a stronger team than last year's. I am very excited.
