Yes. Utah beat Portland last season. The Utes also beat Pepperdine in 2010 and Gonzaga in 2008.

"Get Set for WCC play? I wonder how one does that?"

The same as preparing to play in any decent multi-bid NCAA conference.

Of course, that appears be a lost expectation on the hill where perennial train wrecks and mass exoduses are the modus operandi.

btw, the upper half of the WCC is every bit as good as the upper half of the PAC 12, and those are the teams you have to beat in order to be competitive in the conference.

Gonzaga is very, very good. Just ask the Big 12. I think they'll roll through the WCC and go deep in NCAAs. BYU will finish 4th, maybe 3rd if they improve substantially. The MWC is probably the best basketball conference in the West. That have been better than PAC10 for a number of years now. Gozaga and St Mary's and to a lesser extent BYU and sometimes LMU make WCC a very legit conference. Gonzaga has been the best program in the west for about a decade now.

In the last 5 years, have the mighty Utes defeated ANY WCC team?

For what it's worth, average PAC12 attendance last year was 7,808 (lots of empty seats in those bigger arenas). Utah claims an average attendance of 8,422, but judging from all the empty red seats, that number must have included a lot of season ticket no-shows. The Mtn.West had a higher attendance average than the PAC12. BYU had an average attendance of 18,714, which was better than the PAC12 best, Arizona, at 13,680. If criticizing BYU's conference opponents' gym size is the best you can do, schedule Gonzaga, St. Mary's and just about any other WCC team in your pre-season instead of College of Idaho, Willamette and Texas State.

Wow, Indycrimson. If you understand basketball at all you would realize that the WCC has performed better than the Pac 12 the last few years. Normally, I would say that the bottom teams of the WCC are not as good as the bottom teams of the Pac 12, but at least the last two years that is not the case. I think BYU will be lucky to finish 3rd this year. The gyms are small, but the basketball played is very good. Very ignorant when it comes to basketball knowledge.

Get Set for WCC play? I wonder how one does that?

I guess you could join a church league to get used to mini gyms?
You could play high schools with really high IQ's, where sports have little participation?
You could be a high school and schedule all junior high teams, except two or three that are good twice a decade?
Or you could perennially put two (good to great) players on your team and then start 3 who just watch and give high fives to the Big 2.

Getting prepared for WCC play is tough...
