You mean I can choose not to buy health insurance? Nope, that choice has been lost

You mean I don't have to support the additional debt? REALLY? Who is going to pay my share?

You mean I can choose to stop BO from shutting down the domestic coal industry? Nope, I don't have that authority.

You mean BO has not restricted oil leases on federal land? Yes, he has.

It looks to me that your spin has made you so dizzy you cannot recognize the truth

Lost, most of the "freedoms" you list as having lost are choices you are making on your own, not actual lost freedoms. You can spin it however you choose. That certainly is a freedom you haven't lost!

To "Fred44" lets make this clear. The Republicans offered to work with Obama last year on closing loopholes, but the Democrats are the ones that didn't want to compromise with the Republicans.

Why do the Republicans have to compromise? Historically what the Republicans wanted to do results in MORE tax revenues. Yes it is harder to measure because there is a psychology to consumer spending that can't be calculated.

Plus, the other hard thing to calculate is the future tax revenues based on the jobs that are created through the increased consumer spending.

Actually if you read the polls the people want the republicans to compromise. They know that the President has offered compromise in the past and it the republicans who refuse to compromise.

Yes Mr. Cantor offered to close loopholes (never specified which ones) but only with a lowering of tax rates. If one side wants tax increases (democrats) and one side wants spending cuts (republicans) and the democrats offer spending cuts but the republicans want to create the appearance of tax increases by closing loopholes and then lowering rates to make it revenue neutral that really isn't an attempt to compromise.

Compromise means both sides give something. The republicans have yet to agree to any revenue increase that can be measured.

The people want the Obama and democrats to compromise and work with the republicans,

will they listen to the people?

OR will thier arrogance drive this country over the fiscal cliff?

To "Fred44" I had this discussion yesterday. You forget that the Republicans were willing to talk closing loopholes, and cutting tax rates. It was the Democrats who walked away at that point. See "Cantor says GOP open to cutting tax loopholes in debt deal, but Senate Republicans balk" in the Washington Post. Despite the headline, if you read the artice you see that it was the Democrats who refused to compromise.

you asked for lost freedoms, I gave them to you.

now you come back and say "those don't count"

No wonder there is no negotiating with the left, anytime you give them what they want, they ask for something else - the target is always moving.

Yes, BO IS reponsible for the increased mortality rate. He has been predictably weak, telling the taliban we're leaving soon, then they can take over, and thereby emboldening them and increasing their activity. I am sorry you have such BO colored glasses that you cannot see that or the loss of freedom under his misadministration.

I need you to define compromise for me because in the summer of 11 the President had some very significant cuts to entitlements on the table that Mr. Boehner walked away from because they tea party wouldn't allow him to do anything on taxes. In my mind the President was compromising on entitlements but Mr. Boehner was unwilling to compromise on taxes.

Have we forgotten the debates already when republicans where given the option of having 10 dollars in spending cuts and 1 dollar in tax increases and they all refused to say they would take it.

How do you negotiate or compromise with that mentality?

Those are lame, Lost. Come up with some real policy that has diminished your freedom.

And are you really going to blame deaths in Afghanistan on Obama? Wow!

To "atl134" actually the US credit rating was lowered because the Democrats refused to compromise and cut spending. The most recent credit downgrade was due to the the actions of the Federal Reserve. See the CBS article "Ratings firm downgrades U.S. credit" They were quite clear what the reason was for the downgrade.

"Credit rating agency Egan-Jones is downgrading its rating on U.S. debt to AA- from AA, citing Federal Reserve plans to try to stimulate the economy." I hate to tell you this, but that has nothing to do with the tea party. That is pure government policy that could be corrected by Obama or the Democrats if they wanted to.

the freedom not to buy health insurance if you don't want to.

the freedom to use the federal lease system in place to obtain oil leases on federal land

the freedom of the coal industry to responsibly mine domestic energy and employ people

the freedom to practice your religion (meaning religious employers did not have to buy certain "health" products under insurance plans before BO signed Obamacare)

freedom to have pride in your country

freedom not to worry about our children's future

freedom from $6 trillion in new debt and climbing

we used to think the next generation would have it better than we do - that thought has been ripped from us.

Life has been taken at an increasing rate among our troops serving in afghanistan - the mortality rate there has increased exponentially since BO took over.

The Country that I love so much is becoming more like the Country that I once lived in. So many people now days expect a free handout. They expect others to work hard so that they can get those things that they get free. What ever happened to the Country that others people in distant lands loved to hear about and wanted to enjoy what we had. That is no longer. I fear for us here in America because little by little our freedoms are being taken away. Wake up people before it is to late and see what is happening and stop blaming others for making things happen. I hear all the time that it is the Tea party this or the liberals that. We the People need to stop and think with common sense before it is to late and America will be something that we are not proud of.

Although out numbered, there are still some good people with common sense, but I do feel your pain.

When Moses led the people out of Egypt, they missed the hand that fed them, and would prefer the chains of slavery then taking responsibility for their own lives.

Today the national debt doesn't matter to many of our citizens, as long as they get their benefits, and are fed. Don't want the responsibility of freedom.

the GOP has no leverage. Just give Barack what he wants - a blank check and move on. This country is dead in the water anyway with 16 trillion in debt and counting what's another trillion. Sick of politics and sick of the low budget people in this country that prefer hand outs over a hand up. American greatness is past tense.

"We're not going to raise the debt ceiling."

Oh good going there Lindsey. Our credit rating was lowered because of the tea party lunatics pushing this mantra the first time.
