BYU football: Cougars overcome slow start against New Mexico State

    Yeah BYU had a slow start, but it's hardly something as the headline says, that they overcame. What happened was Lark got his feet wet, New Mexico State played hard for awhile as underdogs often do, then talent took over, and the bigger horses wore down the little guy.

    When your sluggish against a bad team with better talent than a smaller school however (i.e bottom PAC 12 teams like Washington State and Colorado), you can still lose if you aren't ready, because those teams gain confidence during the game and can match the talent pool more closely than the Northern Colorado like teams in the 4th quarter. Utah was scoreless after the first quarter against them, but won 41-0 nonetheless.

    USU overcame the little guy complex this year. Last year they lost a lot of games in the 4th quarter (i.e. Auburn) because they wore down. Coach Anderson is building a program that now believes they can win and he gets better recruits than before. Staying healthy helped USU as well this year as well.
