Carlino is the next Abouo--giveth then taketh away. Inconsistent.

Carlino also goes so fast at times to break the press he ends up turning the ball over once he gets near the foul line. Out of control.

Calvert, even though a frosh, can obviously run the team. He should be the PG the rest of the way and let Carlino play the 2 or back up the 2.

Calvert played better than Carlino against FSU. The problem is that Carlino has a great game then an awful game. The great game gives us just enough encouragement to think, he can do this. But then he somes out with an outing like this. We're going to have our hands full tonight against a very good ND team.

Haws is easily the best player on this team, it is not Davies. Davies, since his freshman year, has this absurd ability to get into early foul trouble, then sits and the team is hurt. The guy is a senior, he should be smart enough to know he has to stay on the floor for BYU to win. The pathetic thing about Davies is in most cases his fouls are really dumb fouls, they aren't even good fouls. If Davies plays smarter, this can be a pretty good team, but I saw flaws in this team in the Georgia State game. Yes they were on fire the first ten minutes, but after that they got beat the rest of the game.

I suspect that the focus on being a pass-first point guard is currently taking too much of a toll on Matt. I believe he can still grow into an exceptional player. How good a team could this one be if he turned into John Stockton--an extremely good passer that knew when to complement that with his shot? Anyone who watched Stockton for a long time knew he was entirely capable of taking on the scoring load *if asked*, as you would see him with the occasional 30-point night when defenses did a fantastic job on Malone and Hornacek. Matt needs to somehow learn to do the same. The time may well come when Coach Rose wants him to be a score-first point guard. But Jimmer was an extreme anomaly; Rose clearly likes a traditional game wherein the point guard quarterbacks the team rather than trying to be its top scorer.

As feared, Carlino is not filling the need at point guard. Rose has been trying to build him up in the media both to encourage him to distribute the ball vs shooting it to much, as well as convince fans that he can do the job.

It is not working. Doesnt look like Delgado is any better which is a shame.

We will see if Carlino actually is coachable over the next several games. If not, maybe Rose should look for another transfer guy or JC player.

These stats say it all: this team currently needs to improve a lot.
