For dying patients, early discussions about care reduce aggressive treatments

    Excellent article. Patients should have all the information they to make a choice about how they want to spend the last days of their lives -- fighting to the last breath or peacefully accepting that the end is near. Doctors should not be able to make that choice for them by only giving them half the information they need (i.e. forcing them -- by not suggesting alternatives -- to have costly and painful treatment that may briefly prolong life, but at a cost in comfort and peace.) People deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
