I like coach K and think he really is trying to do what's best for the U of U to get to a higher level. However, there's no doubting that the U has one of the worst OOC schedules in all of college basketball.

BYU will be playing Florida State, Baylor, Montana, Virginia Tech, Iowa State and Utah State preseason. And will be playing either St Joseph's or Notre Dame. FSU, Baylor, and Notre Dame are all ranked preseason. St Joe's received votes for the top 25. The other teams are at least legitimate Division-1 teams.

Utahs schedule can't be 15-0. If you won you first game unless, like the rest of us, you aren't counting that as a game.

As far as America is concerned, you might as well have played another "secret" game because this one doesn't count! Larry and his brothers Darryl don't seem to get it. You are in the PAC now. You need to schedule real cupcakes, not d3 schools. You won't have ANY wins to brag about since you won't win 4 pac games. Write that down for me, son.

I'd just like to point out at the moment Utah's schedule is currently 15-0 combined and nobody said they were improving during the jim boylen era. I don't know where you guys get your funny facts from, but this is not the 2011-2012 season. Your best if you just wait out your comments before you sound like an idiot.

d1 teams are not automatic wins. Williamette was but you have no room to talk considering you've scheduled 1 this year and 2 last year.

Hmmmmm, improving. At least they won the Red-White game.

"Do BYU fans honestly having nothing better to do than to rant on a program that's improving."

We've been hearing rumors for years that Utah's basketball program was "improving", with no tangible evidence that anything had changed. What evidence do you have that it's improving this year?

There is no doubt in my mind that Lone Peak could beat Willamette.

There is a very real possibility that the Utes could go 7-1 through the first 8 games (with excitement billowing from SLC), and then go winless the rest of the season. Although I'm still predicting a 9 or 10 win season for the Utes.

No Ute fan should ever make a negative comment about BYU's week November FB schedule the past two years after looking at Utah's non-conference BB schedule. The Cougs may be the only non-conference team with a ranking below 100.

Do BYU fans honestly having nothing better to do than to rant on a program that's improving. Yes we understand we have a soft schedule but it's not like were beating d3 teams by a couple of points were beating them like good basketball programs should. Also you could pull statistics out of your a$$ all you want but it's a new season and last I checked games in the past don't define how good teams are going to be this season. The Utes still play 10 D1 Basketball teams in the pre season so let the team do the talking.

Also Good luck against Eastern New Mexico I mean BYU's schedule is obviously full of power houses. I just hope you gan be a mid conference WCC team in a conference far worst than the PAC-12

I see you've been drinking the red koolaid.

San Diego Christian is a D-II team.

    Willamette is a D-III team.

That's like Utah football playing an entire season of Northern Colorado's and then claiming they've "improved" because they went "undefeated".

Any "improvement" in record for the Runnin' Utes will be purely cosmetic unless the Utes win more than 3 conference games.

Lone Peak High School could win 10 games against Utah's OOC schedule.

But remember, Utah played a similar team last year for their opener, San Diego Christian, and only won by 3. So I would say that this team is improved. With a watered down preseason, and hopefully a better showing in conference, I think Utah might finish around 0.500 which would be a substantial improvement. I watched the game and there is a clear upgrade in athleticism on this year's team. Predicting miracles? No. Just enjoying the glimpse into the future, and it looks bright.

When will fans get over Utah and BYU occasionally scheduling lesser teams in BBall and football? It's getting pretty boring reading all of the "original" observations that Willamette and Idaho are not great teams.

    @aunt lucy;

This is no surprise scheduling a Willamette team, the utes have done this for many years. Scheduling Wolford ST. or Eastern Washington A&M. Build up your pride lil brothers, pound your chests for the bubble will burst when you come to Provo in a few weeks. (96-59) Oh and I hear next you'll start with North Dakota Christian Academy.

    Utah is undefeated this season!

As Ufan pointed out, Utah is really winless this season, but when you drop down from 3-point opening game win over a D-II team last season, to an opening game blowout over a D-III team this season, can you really say that's an "improvement"?

Trying to spin something positive out of beating a DIII 5-20 team is almost as pathetic as scheduling the game in the first place. Has the once proud U slipped this far. They could have gotten a better game and sold more tickets if they had scheduled Provo High's varsity team. This game is not news worthy unless your kid plays for the U.

utahcountyute and indycrimson need a little dose of reality; scrimmaging against high school teams isn't going to prepare the Utes to play real teams.

The difference, my fellow Utah fan, is BYU is playing real teams in building another 25+ win season and preparing for another NCAA tournament.

Meanwhile, our Utes are playing high school teams and trying to fool Utah fans into thinking that the Utes are "undefeated," when, in reality, Utah is WINLESS. (Willamette is so far off the RPI charts that they won't even count in Utah's won/loss record or RPI ranking.

    2011-2012 RPI
    #106 Tennessee State
    #274 Utah
    unranked Willamette

Thank you - that was good.
Btw, I was one of the meager crowd. Definite improvement, however I would wager that they aren't close to what Coach Krysko wants on the defensive end. That said, miles ahead of last year!

"Wobby and Wandy Weid Weturn will take over your dreams!!!"

From what I saw, Jordan Loveridge is for real. I get that he was playing against kids smaller and less talented which made him look better but talent is talent. He's going to be really good. There are some other pieces on that team as well.

I think Indy is right though. The game in Provo will be competitive and kinda scary for our little blue friends.

    Go Utes!

Utah is undefeated this season! Why the sour grapes my man? Why pick on the Utes? We've sucked for 5+ years...why pick on us? Do you steal candy from babies? Trip the handicapped? Where will you stop??

Your fantastic team on the other hand smashed a powerhouse last night. You manhandled a 20-13 team from the OVC conference last year...who has one player on the team that NBA scouts talk about. You guys killed them...BYU is awesome. I bet all of your players go to the NBA after the season ends, like what happened to Kentucky last year.

    Again, why pick on us??

Because you know down deep we might just beat you all this season. You can feel it brewing. You can recall the days of Majerus returning to the hill...Tony Engle accomplishments return to haunt you! The dream of Wobby and Wandy Weid Weturn will take over your dreams!!!

Your worst nightmare might be returning...only this time in the WCC...

Are we going to see the runnin ute bandwagon start filling back up now that they finally got a win over a DIII team?

    Probably not.

At least they gave a few fans a good show. I call those at the game fans because that is what a fan is. You show up no matter how your team is doing. I really can't believe how fast the basketball fan base has been decimated. Will the football fan base do the same thing in couple of years?

    Nov. 9, 2012 11:05 p.m.

Wow, Yfan, I'm really proud. Good thing we have you here, because I searched the entire article for just that information, but couldn't find it.

"The meager crowd on a snowy night at the Huntsman Center let out one of its biggest cheers of the evening,... [when walk-on Xan Rickets hit an inside shot with 1:36 left to put the Utes in triple figure]."

Beating up on a Div III team that only won 5 games last season isn't exactly a recipe for drawing big crowds back to the Huntsman.

Meanwhile, down in Provo, over 16,000 showed up on a snowy night at the Marriott Center to watch BYU beat a team that finished 20-11 last season, 2nd in their conference, and narrowly missed getting to the big dance.

    Go Utes!
