Thanks for recognizing me as a "real" Utah fan. After loyally following the Utes as my favorite team for the last 35 years, even while I was an undergraduate student at BYU, I think I've earned it. As you know, the pre-Ronny Mac years were pretty lean!

You have made it clear what you mean by 'Utah "fans."' Trust me, I get it. But be honest, by your criteria, there are more than a few Cougar "fans" out there.

I don't agree with the tone of many of the posts in these comments sections, but I have grown weary of trying to police my fellow sports fans in their comments. Instead, I try to make thoughtful, objective observations, and I try to use restraint when posting, particularly when it is a BYU-focused article. For what it's worth, these efforts have resulted in my being more comfortable in my own skin than I was last year.

That being said, here's a little well-meaning, unsolicited advice: Put aside the anger, Ducky - you'll feel better!

The Utes imploded this week with the number of turnovers and bad penalties that kept them from scoring.

Yes they were take aways by OSU but most of the turnovers were avoidable. Christopher should have caught that tipped pass is was high but still catchable. Also Wilson put that pitch right in his hands down near the goal line. No excuses those plays need to be made. The ironic thing is it was our seniors dropping the ball or not making the plays. I'm hoping that changes this week.

Most Utah fans knew that the Utes had a lot of work to do in order to compete week in and out of this conference. There are a couple of teams that aren't great but overall, even those teams have better athletes than you will find on most MWC rosters.

Utah had it's best recruiting class they have ever had last year and this years class seems to be getting to where they need it as well.

There is still a lot to play for this season but the Utes still have a bright future in a good conference.

    Go Utes!

But you're not a utah "fan", you appear to me to be a real fan. utah "fans" are well known on these boards, individuals like christy b who is seldom around anymore, naval vet who has completely disappeared, jenny, hedghog, williary, 54-10 and his other 300 screen names, johninslc, hailstorm, etc. Gone, they're all pretty much gone. And by being gone they prove to be exactly what we all knew them to be, utah "fans". Those that simply hop on when they perceive it to be good and disappear when it isn't. Those that simply hate BYU but now can't use a false claim of being utah fans to make a false claim of superiority. I personally don't understand why you don't get what they are and why real utah fans like yourself tolerate them. You should be condemning them at every opportunity, but for some reason you do not. It is interesting to watch.

Being a 'goof ball' Cougar fan brings a smile and a sense of satisfaction as compared to being a Ute fan about now.

And please explain what does "or we need to move on" mean?

'Code speak' for firing Whit or fans abandoning the Utes?... which has already occurred from the lack of comments on these boards.

Utes need to look to 2013.

Disaster at QB but Wilson might be the future. O-line can kill any QB and ours did it this year!

Whit will prove he is good enough for a conference like the PAC 12 with his ability to recruit nationally desired players. He's not there currently. Next year he must show a better result or we need to move on.

Beating the goof balls down south is not enough for me. Put that behind us and look to the future...rivalries gone, they are not a good team and you cannot gauge success or progress by how bad, or often you beat them.

PAC 12 has stud coaches...except Sark who will lose his job at WA this year...

Hope we turn it around next year...growing impatient.

Can't win when you turn the ball over. Maybe I should be like byu fan and say "if it weren't for all those turn.... Wait it's not worth it. Utes lost. Keeping fighting Utes!

Still a lot of football left for the Utes.

Great teams left on the schedule.

They will get it going and finish with a bowl win. That's what the Utes do!

    Go Utes!

I don't claim to speak for other Utah fans, but I am still here. I am just trying to resist the temptation to snark back and forth with BYU "fans" like you.

But since I am typing, here are some observations:

Everything that concerned me in the offseason about this Utah team has unfortunately come to fruition.

-Replacing NFL-caliber offensive tackles, productive linebackers, and dealing with the growing pains of an inexperienced OC, have all been issues this year.

-I didnt' expect Wynn to last through the season, but I am happy with the progress of true freshman Wilson.

-Maybe it's just due to play-calling and injury, but White hasn't been nearly as impressive this season.

    -Christopher has disappointed.

-The defense, while good, hasn't met expectations.

-There is a much smaller margin of error in the PAC 12 than Utah was used to in the MWC. They have to show up weekly, not help their opponents with penalties and turnovers.

-No matter what conference you play in, it's tough to win games unless you put more points on the board.

-They are improving, and COULD win any of their remaining games.

"BYU tucks tail and runs at the thought of joining the Big 12. Playing a tough schedule like that has the Cougar Camp running for toilet paper."

Please explain your rant in light of the Utes discontinuing and running away from the BYU rivalry for a few years.

Also... when did BYU get an invite to the BIG 12?

Come back when you get your facts straight and when you're not so worked up aka "frantic and emotional" over your last place, 0-4 Utes.

The kids on the hill have only themselves to blame.

After all of the chest-beating by Utah fans about the Utes being "one of the big boys", it's becoming increasingly apparent, even to the most die-hard Utah fans, that the Utes simply aren't good enough to compete in the PAC.

BYU fans have been disappointed in BYU's season, but the huge difference between BYU and Utah is this:

BYU is three plays away from being 7-1 and ranked in the Top 25 with two road wins against Top 25 opponents. BYU is a lock for a bowl.

Utah is one play away from being 1-6 and winless against D1 opponents. Utah's bowl hope are hanging by a thread.

Shifting the discussion to BYU fans chirping about your loss doesn't deflect from the real issues. Try looking at the low ball comments from Utah fans on BYU sports. There are still only 5-6 legitimate FB teams in the PAC-12. Owning BYU? It's a bit of humor amid the gloom.

Nice effort for the first half.

But Utah didn't give the ball up - OSU took it away, except for the fumble on the pitch. Ouch. Maybe y'all should have joined the Big East or another pansy conference. Could be an 0-fer in the PAC....

Careful - Cal will be hungry after the Stanford loss.

I'll bet some of y'all saw Wheaton in your nightmares.

    Oct. 21, 2012 11:30 a.m.

worf, if that were the case, then why did Pac-12 refs blow a call in overtime giving ND a win in OT against a ranked Stanford team?

BYU is 5-14 vs good teams in 3 years and from the looks of it all BYU fans are concerned about is Utah. Newsflash: Utah is horrible this year, but we still OWN your team.

Its been 4 years and Utah still doesn't have a long term solution for the OC position. As I said BJ isn't qualified to be an OC for a D2 team. This is not an opinion but a fact:

    A) 114 ranked offense
    B) 3 total TDs in 3 PAC-12 road games
    C) Best performance against a D1 team: 17 points on BYU's greatest defense ever

The defense seems to be getting better, at least this week they could tackle. Where is the pass rush, ranked #72 in sacks. And how about those penalties keeping the opponents drives alive leading to TDs, that's two straight weeks.

Good to see the "class" of BYU fans on the U of U board--how did BYU do against Oregon State last week in Provo? How did they do against the U of U this year?

At least the U of U has the guts to step up to the national stage. BYU tucks tail and runs at the thought of joining the Big 12. Playing a tough schedule like that has the Cougar Camp running for toilet paper.

Idaho and NMSU should help BYU get their groove back and have them talking BCS-busting again. No LOL--sad, just very very sad.

I am a Utah man, sir, and I cannot take much more.
We looked so good on paper. Once again we're 0-4.
Cheer up, there's always next year when we might avoid this hole.
A team can still be great without an invite to a bowl (right?).

    Who am I sir?
    Hey, look over there!

    Yawn... aaah... the afterglow...

The new 'normal' has now arrived.

0-4 Pac 10.2 record... thunk... at the bottom.

Let the Utesies now heap 'praises' to those responsible. This is going to be fun to monitor.

Kyle is not a coach, Johnson is not an OC, and the Utes don't have a QB.

If they want to compete, they need to step up.

    Or, keep losing.

    Just my theory:

Having rated teams lose to Utah would hurt potential conference revenue. Having a few calls going against the utes would ensure teams staying rated. Could this be a reason for PAC 12 refs are for all games in and out of conference?

Our players are making bonehead mistakes by getting penalties that either kill Utah drives or the prolong opponents drives. Blechen bonehead helmet to helmet. Anderson bonehead by covering up the tight end on the ineligible man down field. Christopher bonehead fumble. Wilson is still young but needs to be absolutely certain about those short over the middle passes. Whit is in danger of losing this team if it hasn't happened already. If he's worth his $2MM paycheck he must figure this thing out by next week.

I think DeVonte has already checked out mentally and it's time to leave him on the bench and get some of the younger receivers more playing time so they can gel with Wilson for next year. Finally, please find more speed at LB.

Had our chances, but the execution wasn't there. You can't turn the ball over and drop that many passes and expect to come out on top against a top 10 team; especially on the road. Get it together boys and rebound against Cal.
