That's alright Utah fans. You still have a chance of beating Colorado, maybe.
Just get back that much-needed adrenaline that you mustered against BYU. You just might have a chance. :)

I warned you Utah fans about entering the Pac 12. As I said last year, just wait until the Pac 12 throws blue chip athletes at you on a "weekly basis".
You want it. You got it.
    Fight on USC!

I guess we can agree to disagree. The game against USC just reassured me that the Utes can play with anyone..and win. They just need to tighten things up a bit. USC has a good team; a ton of tallent.

Alpine wonders "Is there a good reason that you can not be excited about BYU truly developing into an Independent power?"
Maybe I am just more skeptical of BYU. Utah's first two (or more) years in the PAC are predictable. The PAC requires greater talent and depth than the MWC. Utah has improved recruiting already, but has a ways to go.

BYU's 2013 schedule is impressive, but what will they do with it? BYU has struggled in big games so far this year. What needs to happen for them to win the big games next year? Improved recruiting? I don't see it. Independent, WAC, or MWC, BYU will always recruit the same guys. That talent level allowed them to win in the pre-TCU MWC. Can that talent level go 12-0 next year?

"truly a BCS-buster worthy schedule if there ever was one" but they have to run the table. Utah's struggles in the PAC 12 makes it more difficult for a non-AQ to say "we belong in a BCS game".

"I do think Utah can win 6-8 games"

The Utes might win 6 games to be bowl eligible. They don't stand a snowball's chance in... of winning 8 games.

A couple of calls certainly went against the Utes, but I give credit to USC. Utah needs to get the QB situation figured out. I thought Utah played pretty dang tough. I certainly don't see a huge bowl in the future; but I do think Utah can win 6-8 games. Go UTES >---------->

    @ SoonerUte

From one Sooner to another: you are way off base my friend. Actually root for Utah in every game and every sport except for one opponent each year. Looking forward to last night's game for a long time, but a bit disappointed by Utah's offense.

Can you really say that about BYU's remaining schedule: two ranked teams (Oregon State and Notre Dame) as well as USU (an excellent team that will eventually be ranked), Georgia Tech (mediocre), and three remaining WAC creampuffs. Then let's look ahead to next year when the Cougs are scheduled to play Texas, Notre Dame, Boise State, Utah, Wisconsin, Houston - truly a BCS-buster worthy schedule if there ever was one. Far more impressive than any of Utah's 2004/2008 or Boise's BCS schedules where they had exactly one team from a BCS conference each year.

Is there a good reason that you can not be excited about BYU truly developing into an Independent power? Or do you just hate them because they're B-Y-U? In that case-lighten up dude as both BYU and Utah represent the great state of Utah!

"Utah gave a good effort last night against a very good USC team."

That's kind of encouragement Pop Warner coaches give to their young players right after getting stomped by a much better team.

Duke, Vanderbilt, Indiana, Iowa State, Colorado and Washington State all feel your pain, although Colorado and Washington State are probably happy to have U as company at the bottom of the PAC.

Utah gave a good effort last night against a very good USC team.

There were some positives to take away from that game but it is still a loss. I didn't expect the Utes to win that game last night given what we have seen so far this year but they still made it a competitive game and gave a really good effort.

Last year was arguably the Utes best recruiting class they have ever had it will however take a few years of those type of recruiting classes to be able to beat teams like USC on a consistant basis. They are doing everything they need to do to make that all happen it just takes time. The new football training facility will help along with the stadium expansion will both help with recruiting. But the coaching staff does know how to get the most out of their players - we just need more high level players.

The Utes will be ok not as good as I had hoped but they are making good improvement. I agree with coach Whit that it's time to get Wilson more involved in the offense.

    Go Utes!

Alpine Coug wondered "Someone please remind me exactly why I circled 10/4 on my calendar as "Utah Pac XII Championship Game." Must be getting old-since I can't remember the logic."

Because you're bored with independence, especially now that the Cougar football season is over. Its far more exciting to watch Utah develop into a PAC 12 team, than to watch BYU pad stats against cream puffs.

I don't know why anyone other than Utah fans are on here posting, as if losing to USC is some shameful thing, at least not this year. As someone already said, USC is just a better team than Utah. They have 10 or so future NFL players and an amazing QB. Utah played hard, got some breaks, but gave some breaks as well.

This is life in the PAC12. It will take Utah some time to get their feet under them. There's nothing wrong with having high hopes for your team. That's called being a fan. But reality is setting in for this year. Utah plays a very tough schedule.

USC was clearly a better team, and I credit the Utes for fighting throughout the game. It's clear that we still have some major offensive woes, and our tackling was pretty bad. However, you have to also note the USC was thought by many to be the best team in the nation coming into this year, and they have a top 5 draft pick quarterback and two future all-Pro receivers and probably a running back. I think they need to give serious consideration to giving Travis Wilson lots more playing time--not because he's better than Hays right now, but because Hays is probably as good as he's going to be, and if our QB situation is finally going to be turned around by next year we'll need Wilson to get all the experience he can...

It's true that without those two big plays this was still a three point game (and it's too bad the penalty called back the Ute touchdown at the end of the half)... but the offense and defense need to not give up those kinds of big plays if they're going to start winning again. Go Utes.

Funny where is chris b when the utes lose? I sat there watching the first 2 minutes of the game thinking, 'it desn't matter, usc will come back on them'. BYU 27 USU 13

No Utes posting on this story? They can't really be in shock because they couldn't have really expected to win this game.

Well, USC gave Utah 2 TDs in the first 3 minutes, it's only fair that they got to score 2 TDs in the last 3 minutes.

Other than the giveaways and the last TD against USC's 2nd string, Utah managed one drive and one score. And they could not stop the balanced attack and great play calling of USC. But hey, somebody has to be last in the PAC.....

The caption for the photo is wrong. The QB did not drop the ball. There were two horrible center snaps that gave the ball up on USC's first two possessions in the Utah Red Zone that led to TDs for Utah. Put the responsibility squarely on the center. But he bounced back and had a great rest of game.

To paraphrase from A Knight's Tale's Count Adama: "In what world could Utah have ever beaten USC?"

    GO DUCKS!!
