    It seems to encourage the abuse of employees. Want a break during your 8-hour shift? Nope. What are you going to do? Go work elsewhere? Good luck, because you're not getting a reference if you ever leave here, so it's work the 8 hours, plus 2 or 3 'unofficial', unpaid hours, if you want employment at all.

    Yes, that's fiery and not true of all, but the stories of those situations do seem to be up. Here in Utah, we don't seem to have unions, and our state regulatory situation isn't going to discourage abuse much either, so you'd better hope to find work with good people that have strong ethics.
