To My2cents: money is not the root of all evil, with respect, Paul said it is the love of money that is the root of all evil.

So, one old man, you expect Bishop, Hatch and "cronies" (pejorative term).. to protect you against the Obama Chicago political machine? That's a David-Goliath scenario for sure.

Those who play by the rules are always shocked with there are those who don't and who get away with it. What do you expect Bishop, Hatch and others to do, specifically? Specifically, what do you expect them to do? They can't award federal contracts (only the Administration can). They can't put political pressure on contract decision makers or they'll violate federal influence peddling laws and possibly go to jail. So what, again, specifically do you expect them to do?

I know what I expect them to do... Help get Obama and his "cronies" (pejorative term) out of office and bring in the fumigator to clean it up for Romney. Obama's been an unmitigated disaster for our country. What a wasted opportunity.

So much for the "protection" of Bishop, Hatch and the rest of their cronies.

When companies win contracts from the federal government, it is possible for companies who lose to appeal the decision.

If there is reason to believe that the selection process wasn't fair, there is nothing [that I am aware of] to prevent ATK from appealing. If they are correct that their proposal was the lowest cost and it can be proven the safest alternative, I hope they appeal and that the appeals process will be fair.

It reminds me of that time, a few years ago, where there was a Tea Party rally and a Save-ATK rally -- and it was the same rally! They were saying "slash government spending" and also saying "wait, no, except for the _that_ spending."

That's the GOP modus operandus. Say you oppose the stimulus, but then show up and smile for the cameras at the ribbon cutting.

It's like Mia Love, opposing government spending on the exact programs that she relied on to get through college.

It's like all those grad students in Utah that use WIC and Baby-your-baby to support their large families through grad school, and _then_ become fiscal conservatives after they get a job.

Utah's far-right swerve with Bishop, Chaffetz, Lee, etc., has done nothing for Utah except alienate us from the rest of the world and turn up the volume in the echo chamber. We shouldn't be surprised when people start fleeing the the crazy. NASA today. Who tomorrow--the Outdoor Retailers convention?

It is simply unreal how twisted people selectively see the world. ATK loosing must be related to "crony capitalism", and yet the millions being spent to build a world class intelligence center in Utah.... well, we will just ignore that because it doesn't match up to the little story line that has been built up.

I am sure it has nothing to do with the fact the Boeing (and the companies that are now part of Boeing) have been part of lift systems for NASA since its inception - through both Republican and Democratic administrations. As to the Blue versus red state distribution of contracts.... a more logically conclusion might be that Fortune 500 corporations are multiple times more often located in Blue states. If you all want to try to find some Obama conspiracy in that - have at it.

You really need to take your partisan glasses off. Just perhaps, I know it is crazy talk, a corporation many times the size was able to (in a very capitalist way) out maneuver a smaller rival - regardless of where it was located, or the color of its state.

I feel for the ATK employes, I really do..

To the victor goes the spoils. Crony capitalism triumphs again. Money is going to blue states. Obama said it, We won, get over it.

"We need more free enterprise industrial businesses in Utah so the federal government can't use money as leverage to force Utah to give up its lands and its rights."

All I can say is there are some history lessons missed based on this comment.

Go back and study how Utah became a state, and the deal the Brigham Young made to obtain statehood. THen you might better understand how the Federal Government ended up controlling so much of the states public lands.

Previous comments just don't make any sense. Sorry. I don't remember any Utah politician saying they didn't want the government's "filthy" money." Grow up.

The question is, if the Federal Government has a legitimate reason for a particular program (i.e., the Space program), then is the money they are spending being done in a wise manner? Is the Administration (Obama and his appointees) being wise stewards of what they take from us, the taxpayers?

The answer with Space and NASA is, no. No they're not. They are using the once-proud NASA program that put the US in the leadership role for the world, in third place. And with the left over money, they are using it to reward friends and punish enemies. It's crony Captialism, just like Solyndra, and GM bailout, and a dozen others. It stinks.

That's the real issue.. As if you need any more reasons to, yet another to show Obama the Exit in November.

Bishop should be thrilled. Less federal spending and less intrusion by the federal government in Utah, right? He does want to balance the budget, doesn't he? He is a state rights guy, right?

What? That only applies when the spending isn't in his interest?

Maybe its a good thing for Utah. We already have enough government albatrosses hanging around our necks holding the economy down. We need more free enterprise industrial businesses in Utah so the federal government can't use money as leverage to force Utah to give up its lands and its rights.

Some things are more important than jobs or money and freedom and free will is one of them. Government money and funding forces the american citizens of Utah to put up with and tolerate foreign nationals occupying our cities and street and destroying our prosperity, jobs, and lives. Money is the root of evil and even worse when the state government uses it to oppress and dictate rights.

I look at this as a blessing, one we can live with.

Its not the Government's money or Federal money it is TAX PAYER MONEY! It is my money, confiscated in excessive taxes that caused jobs to be lost!

I guess that is ok. After all, we keep hearing about how the government has nothing to do with jobs, and that Utah doesn't want federal money.

Looks like it was a self fulfilling prophecy.
