Matheson = Pelosi/Reed/Obama. What else is there to say.

She will talk big if and until she is elected. Then she will sit back and do nothing but rack in big bucks like the rest of them in Washington!

    @Liberal Ted, @Democrat, and @UtahDemocrat:

Mia Love rarely talks about race. It's the Democrats in this race who continuously bring it up.

Also, Matheson voted AGAINST the repeal of Obamacare, so get your facts straight. He wants to keep Obamacare.

Mia uses the word contrast, which can mean "opposition or juxtaposition of different forms, lines, or colors in a work of art to intensify each element's properties and produce a more dynamic expressiveness," or "the relative difference between light and dark areas of a print or negative." I wonder, if Matheson had used the same word, how long it would have been before accusations of racism were raised?

Matheson voted against Obama's Health care bill. Sounds like the misinformation crusade has already begun. What I like about Matheson is he belives it is the fundamental job of the Government to govern. Matheson won't be an ideological mascot, he just goes to work and represents traditional Utah values in the vein of Bill Orton and Olene Walker. Love is supported by a tea party PAC which is quite radical. I am weary of the radical right and left trying to make every issue a choice between good and evil instead of doing basic work like passing budgets and defending the country.

If Mia ran her campaign like the democrats did from 2006-2008....then she could say things like "If you don't vote for Mia you are sexists". "If you don't vote for Mia you are racists".

I can't believe Jim (white male) would want to run against Mia who could be the first black woman congressman in this nations history! We don't want another wrinkly old white man running this country....c'mon democrats are you listening?

    May 23, 2012 8:43 a.m.

    Mia Love is scary.

She would "look at the Paul Ryan plan to privatize Medicare and turn Medicaid and other programs into block grant programs to the states and to extend the Bush-era tax cuts."

Where does the Federal Government get the money to fund "block grants" if not from taxes?

The more I learn about Mia Love, the more I like the idea of her representing Utah. Matheson is in for the campaign of his life and will likely be looking for new employment after the election.

I am always amazed at the hubris demonstrated by Utah Republicans. Whatever happened to the notion that in politics you can disagree without being disagreeable. Mia seems to be a poster child for scorched earth politics. Blue dog = Democrat, Democrat = evil. That's the essence of her political dog whistle message discussed in this article.

a couple of questions for Jim

who will you vote for as speaker of the house? queen nancy - again?

why did you vote to force catholic hospitals to perform abortions?

"I run as Jim Matheson, and everybody in Utah knows that. I vote for what's right for my constituents. Party label really is not what drives any decision I make."

Really Jim? Then why do you vote against democrats, unless your vote is needed or you'll sit out and not vote on a controversial issue unless your fellow democrats need your vote. Yes Jim we all know how you vote, it's not for what is right, it's what benefits your re-election and the image you have of being "bi-partisan" and looking out for the interest of everyone in your district.

At least Pelosi, however misguided and off the wall her thinking is, has what it takes to tell everyone what she thinks.

Jim you don't make sense. We need a leader that is willing to cut spending, cut borrowing, lower taxes for everyone, and pay down and pay off our debt. You haven't done that.

Good bye Jim. Can't wait to vote you out.

We love Mia...get her into the 4th District and then take over for borin' Orrin. This lady is awesome!!

@Star Bright: He voted against Obamacare and has advocated fiscal conservatism. It is hardly fair to characterize him as being in league with Pelosi and Reid. Jim Matheson is a tried and tested conservative Democrat.

Mia says she's a conservative and her record reflects that.

Matheson says he's a moderate, but his record proves that he's a liberal.

So the choice for voters is clear: Do you want to be represented by a conservative, or do you want to be represented by a dishonest liberal?

I really like Mia Love. She is the best candidate Utah has produced in years.

But I can say at least one good thing about Jim Matheson: Unlike Orrin Hatch, Matheson is willing to make a joint appearance with his opponent.

Sure, the story says he avoided recognizing her while delivering his speech, saving his criticism for later, but at least he was willing to be in the same room with her.

I can't wait to hear them debate.

    Go Mia Love!

I believe Mia Love has what it takes not only to beat Matheson, but bring real change to Washington and a better face to Utah.

Mia Love posted the following on her Facebook page a few days ago, and I believe it demonstrates the basic fundamental differences between what we'll get if we send Love back to DC rather than Matheson:

You may have heard that the federal government has fined Davis High $16,000 and Box Elder High $19,000 for selling soda pop to students during lunch—a violation of federal regulations that were established through the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The hefty fines will negatively impact students. For example, Davis High principal Dee Burton says that the money to pay for his school’s fine will come out of its drama, music, and debate programs.

Representative Jim Matheson voted in favor of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. I would have voted against it.

Matheson has fooled his constituents for years by pretending to be a conservative Democrat. He has walked a tight line by catering to his Democrat leadership who have released him for final-passage votes enough times to "protect his seat."

Let's hope the voters aren't fooled again.

Matheson is a phony. Mia Love represents the values of this state.

Popcorn! Get yer hot fresh popcorn here! Buttered or plain, sorry, no bacon bits!

I expect this campaign to have some lively moments. I hope many issues are brought forth and well-represented so that whoever wins will have a better perspective on the concerns that the represented have, whether liberal, conservative, or mixed. (I'd bring veteran's care to the table of concerns, for example)

He went right along with obamacare. He supports palosi and reid. He goes along with all the spending. So how does this help Utah, except put us further in debt.
