This is not new information, and it does not establish any link between Susan's disappearance and Steven Powell.

We would all be much more impressed with Deseret News and WVCPolice if they would not waste the public's time with lack of substance articles and information.

If you have nothing to report, then don't try to make something up or make something out of nothing!

The dad had a thing for her. He controlled Josh. Maybe josh handed her over to him? Maybe she was kept somewhere for a time? If he was in the camped area earlier and took off work afterward he could have collected her from a predeterimed area? Seems weird the statement about daddy and mommy going into the woods and mommy didn't come back comment from one of the boys about the camping trip. He could not have done it alone with the 2 boys. And keep much of it from them so they wouldn't talk without help.

Maybe that last act he was trying to keep the boys from his dad? Thought he was going to jail, if down to grandparents and his dad good out before him could try to get custody from other set of grandparents?

Case won't be over until Susan is found and the details are determined.

The bull camping trip story didn't fool anyone trust me! I am an avid outdoor enthusiaist and Camping in the winter when temperatures are below 38 is a very challenging environment for anyone and everyone let alone a sur of the moment trip with two young kids! Specail equipmwnt is definitely needed special planning and plently of for thought, there is no way you do this with two very young kids on the spur of the moment!! Everyone who knows anything about the outdoors knew that right away!

To All you wanna be defense lawyers, cut out the objective legal jargon defense. These guys are guilty no doubt about that. You should feel guilt for giving them ANY benefit of a doubt.

The Deseret News is reporting the statement of a lawyer for the Cox family who is trying to make the case the WVP were negligent in their investigation of the Susan Powell murder.

However, I think the author of the article should have pointed ou that it is a well established fact that Steven Powell was at his job the morning of December 7, 2009. The 750 miles distance makes it difficult for him to have joined in this campout and returned home in time to go to work.

I feel bad about all of what has happened as do most people in this community and in Washington. I really don't think attacking the police is productive, however.

I don't know about this. Wouldn't the kids have mentioned the fact Steven Powell went camping with them?

I want justice just as bad as the next person, but lets not make shoty assumptions because were desperate.

For the sheer number of dropping shoes and for unexpected twists and turns, the Susan Powell case sets the standard. I suppose I can understand why West Valley Police did not move to arrest Josh Powell before the February disaster given it did not or could not recover an actual body. However, plenty of guys have been convicted of murder cases with less circumstantial evidence than this case piled up.

Now authorities in both West Valley and in Pierce County focus in on Steve Powell -- the man who makes women all over the nation grateful for the fathers-in-law they have. If I were S P 's lawyer, I would beg Pierce County on bended knees for a plea bargain.

    Conflicting Reports:

"Steven Powell told a coworker that he was camping with Josh Powell and his sons the night Susan Cox Powell went missing . . . ."--DesNews

"A co-worker of Steve Powell says the father-in-law of Susan Powell planned to travel to Utah for a camping trip shortly before she disappeared in 2009 . . ."--AssociatedPress

Thus, DN: The statement was made after the campout. AP: It was made before the campout, about a yet-future campout, made either prior to or after her disappearance.

    2009 timeline:

Dec 6--Susan last seen; near midnight Josh Powell takes boys camping

Dec 7--Susan fails to show up at work and is reported missing; Steve Powell shows up at work at his job

Dec 8-9--Steven Powell calls in sick

Dec 10--Josh Powell returns rented car (with 800+ miles on it)

"Post hoc ergo prompter hoc" fallacy: two things happen; therefore the first caused the second ("after this therefore because of this")

To pin on Steven the apparent killing of Susan we’ve got "before this therefore because of this," an absurdity; to pin on Steven obstruction of justice (hiding the body), it might fit (depending on whether we believe DN or AP) but it is inconclusive.

The title should read "more firmly linked". Steven Powell has been linked to Susan Powell's disappearance since the information came out that Steven had a twisted fixation on Susan, and Susan indicated to several about how uneasy Steven made her. I have no interest in "revenge", I want justice for the Cox family. And to forgive should never be linked to forget.

To: CHB.......Anne Bremmer is the attorney for Susan Cox's parents. They have talked about her many time in previous articles. And, it was "STEVEN POWEll" that spoke to "his" coworker, not Josh.

He claimed a relationship, in his own head. Had photos or hers and others without their knowledge. He was controlling over the son. She feared him. She worked to distance herself from him, since creepy.

If the West Valley Police Department had arrested Josh Powell, with limited evidence, and in fact Steven Powell had committed the crime, could an early arrest of the wrong suspect damage the case? A lot of people, including Doug Wright, are not thinking clearly. Once an arrest is made, the defendant is entitled to a speedy trial. You can't base a court case on evidence you hope to find after you make an arrest. The police don't make arrests based on anger or vengeance or supposition. Professional police departments do exactly what WVPD has done. They collect evidence sufficient to prove a case in court and then make arrests. Stop basing your decisions on television dramas. Real police work requires good judgement and evidence.

In my opinion, this case is over. It seems that people are just looking for revenge against Steven Powell, since Josh is no longer around. Let's try to forgive and let the family members left behind heal. No one gets away with anything.

It is better that ten guilty men go free, than to prosecute one innocent one. There is no physical evidence linking Steven Powell to the disappearance of Susan. What Josh told other people is pure hear say, which is inadmissible in a court of law.

I've read this article through about 3 times and it still doesn't make sense ... who is Anne Bremmer and why is she relevant to the story? Is she law enforcement? The attorney? Please identify those you name DesNews.

This gets more and more crazy everyday. Now we have frustrated witnesses going public because they don't feel WVPD is doing their job. It's plain humiliating for the department. How many other witnesses will now come out of hiding? Hopefully all of them.

I've been saying this for a year... as has anyone not associated with WVC police or the County DA.
