Our national debt is crippling. We already spend more money on defense than the next 12 or so countries COMBINED. Battleships are not going to defeat ISIS, but they may end up helping to defeat us. This budget may just be Trump's attempt to impress Arnold Schwartzenegger.

Well the constitution experts are out this morning!

Why are we cutting the EPA again? If anything should be regulated federally, it should be environmental issues. It makes no sense to have one state with no regulation only to have the next state over inheriting their polluted water and air. The environment shouldn't be a partisan issue.

People talk really big about a balanced budget and cutting programs - until the ones they care about are on the chopping block. It will be very interesting to see what happens in the coming months.

    @GaryO

If the original intent was not to make the Federal Government weak then why did they even bother to write the Articles of Confederation? Why not go straight to the Constitution we have now and make the government as strong as possible so it could rule every aspect in the lives of the Citizens kind of like what the Democrats want now a days.

Do you even read comments before you reply? I said the constitution did make the Federal Government stronger, but they put a limit on the central government so America didn't turn into England where the government ran the lives of the people. The founding fathers wanted to leave England and get away from a strong centralized government. You should find some history books and read them. All Universities and Community Colleges have an American Heritage class you can look into if you want.

    Hey ConservativeUtahisBest -

RE: "The original intent of the founding fathers was to make the federal government as weak as possible. "

    Absolutely WRONG

The founders wrote the Constitution to replace the Articles of Confederation, which made our central government far too WEAK to hold the nation together. The Founders designed the Constitution to make our central government STRONGER.

    RE: "@GaryO

Actually I believe it was our founding fathers that said the government is inherently evil . . . "

    You "believe" that huh?

Well, it's a belief based on nothing but faith then, not on provable fact. It doesn't even make sense.

If the founders thought government was "inherently evil," then why did they give us government?

What do you think the Constitution does? It gives us our government.

    Hey RedShirt -

"Explain why we need to spend so much on non-constitutional departments?"

To get things done. But they are not "non-constitutional."

Congress either directly or indirectly created those departments because they felt it was "necessary and proper" to do so.

Read the Necessary and Proper clause. Read the Constitution.

"The funny thing is that under Obama kids were more likely to die because parents couldn't afford the deductibles on their ACA plans."

You think they would be better off financially if they were totally uninsured instead?

    @garyO

Have you heard of the Articles of Confederation? The original intent of the founding fathers was to make the federal government as weak as possible. But they found out that it didn't have enough power so they wrote the Constitution in order to give the Federal Government a little more power, enough to be able to get SOME tax from the states as well as form a military from the citizens of the States. But their whole intent was to have a weaker Federal Government so that America doesn't become like the British government with is why we had the Revolutionary War in the first place.

To "GaryO" if what Obama had was "high quality", then I will take lower quality any day.

Explain why we need to spend so much on non-constitutional departments?

Also, you don't make any sense. You claim that expenses will go up, but anybody who can use any amount of logic knows that if you cut government you actually reduce costs. Since government doesn't produce anything, it isn't like anything that requires quality will be lost.

To "Kent C. DeForrest" is the sky falling in your world too? You sound like chicken little. The funny thing is that under Obama kids were more likely to die because parents couldn't afford the deductibles on their ACA plans. Why worry about corporations polluting we get pollution directly from the EPA. Can you explain how we maintain the entitlements with less money going in to support them? You do realize that under Obama, the US scores in education already went down. Your fears about Trump were already realized under Obama.

Watch the conservatives start screaming when the benefits they expect from government start to disappear. It is common knowledge that the "taker" states are primarily red and the "payer" states are generally blue.

Maybe now America will finally see what happens when the Republicans get their way: millions more uninsured; corporations set free to pollute and scam; Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security drastically whacked; massive shifts in wealth from the already poor to the already rich (assuming this is even possible); America falling further behind the world in education; no immigration reform; immense deficits (as revenues shrink but spending doesn't); and a marked increase in global warming.

I mean, what else can we expect. This is what they have been promising for decades.

Actually I believe it was our founding fathers that said the government is inherently evil and should be limited. But I am glad you are putting the republicans with the likes of George Washington, Thomas Edison, and James Madison...

    Hey Harrison Bergeron -

RE: "I have to admit that I did not believe Trump would follow through on actually cutting government. "

    Oh really?

I knew Trump in the White House would cut the QUALITY of our government. That was an easy call. It happens whenever there's a Republican in the oval office.

The quality of our government goes down . . . As expenses go up, the deficits explode, promises go unfulfilled, and more lies are generated blaming the Democrats.

When Republicans take power, their favorite claim comes true.

    Government becomes evil.

I have to admit that I did not believe Trump would follow through on actually cutting government. I thought that he was just a big talker and would end up growing government like everyone before him.

If he actually gets this done, I will gladly eat crow.
