While the LGBT nondiscrimination bills were being discussed in the legislature, several in this forum raised the specter of cis women being made to feel uncomfortable or threatened by trans women sharing restrooms with them. Those fears are drastically misdirected. As this murder case in the Philippines is emblematic, the biggest threat of victimization is violence by cis men against trans women. Crime statistics show that violence against the LGBT community is disproportionately represented by the T (especially transwomen of color). There is a tragic recurring pattern of cis men reacting brutally when they learn that a woman they have met is trans. There seems to be a lethal concoction of emotion in this situation.
