The Air France flight was analyzed. They found that the Pitot tubes froze over in a high altitude storm, giving a false air speed reading. The pilot was taking a nap and the less-experienced crew believed the air speed was insufficient to maintain flight.
    It was ruled pilot error.
I'm not sure there is a parallel here since modifications were made to the Pitot tubes, installing automatic heaters.
