No other country in the Middle East will accept Palestinian refugees or allow them to immigrate and become citizens - because they want them there for the bad publicity that Israel gets for defending itself. Palestinians have TV shows that indoctrinate young children to kill Jews. Israel has many peaceful Arab citizens who work and vote with full rights, who don't blow up buses and pizzarias. Over 4000 missiles have been fired at Israel in the last 13 years. Iran and other terror sponsors keep shipping them in. If Hamas would stop shooting, there could be peace. If Israel stops defending itself, it will cease to exist. Which is the stated goal of Hamas, Iran and any number of other groups in the Middle east.

The actual State of Palestine has only actually existed since 1988, when they declared themselves and the UN recognized them. Before that, there was NEVER an actual country called Palestine. The territory hasn't been an independent country since Old Testament times, having been controlled by others ever since.

One wonders how wonderful a country they could have if they put as much effort into living as they do killing and dying.

@Objectified The operative word in your initial post is "current". If you go back and study the history of the area, the entire war (note I am excluding current) started much earlier and is a direct result of Israel encroaching on land of the Palestinians through expanded illegal settlements. Israel has done a great job managing the media to conveniently forget the earlier causes so that most such as yourself believe Hamas is attacking Israel for the sake of attacking Israel. But in reality the Palestinian people are not behaving any differently from how you and I would behave if our lands were illegal seized from us. I'm not condoning the methods of Hamas by any means but their complaint is a valid one and should not be forgotten.

My son came home from work late last night and said he was appalled at how many people were actually supporting Hamas / critical of Israel on this round of attacks.

Seeing comments like from "The Equalizer" I now understand why.

    Stay strong, Israel, stay strong.

Can there be really a cease fire if Israel continues to search and destroy the tunnels.

I heard on CNN that the UN written version of the cease fire said nothing about continuing to destroy the tunnels however; the verbal version released by Secretary Kerry said Israel could continue to destroy the tunnels during the cease fire.

    Why the difference?

You say that that territory is their home. Well it has also been the home to Jews going way back too. The Holy Land, where Jesus walked, and will walk again, to answer your last point. And the term Palistinian was really only used in its current form when the state of Isreal was established back in 1948. That is when the Palistinian movement to "reclaim" their land began. And the people who now make up the current population of folks called Palistinians are largely being used by other Arab countries to fight against the Jews. This conflict is not just between a group who are called Palistinians and the Jews, but between most all Islamic Arabs, and others, Persians (Iran) and the Jews. The Palistinians are the proxy fighters for all the rest of the Jew/Israel hating Middle-East.

    @ The Equalizer:

Israel is not asking the Palestinians to give up their religion. Where in the world did you get that false idea?

The only thing Israel has asked of Hamas in order for this war to end is to stop firing rockets into Israel, which Hamas has indiscriminately been doing and has thus far refused to stop doing.

Israel has also asked that Hamas quit building secret tunnels into Israel which Hamas has been using to perform acts of terror against the Jews.

Both requests seem very reasonable to most reasonable people.

Please do some reading and research before making any more such unfounded statements. You will gain some credibility on these comment boards if you would.

" They did not give up on their choice of faith, why should Palestinians give up on their choice just because a bully, a persecutor wants them out of their home. "

No one is asking the Palestinians to convert or leave their faith. You're making that up in hopes of gaining sympathy for them as they continue to attack Israeli civilians from behind human shields.

    @ The Equalizer:

Your comparison is not even close to being equal. Comparing Hamas today with Mormons 150 years ago is almost ridiculous.

First and foremost, Mormon settlers were not firing rockets or anything else at nearby countries or groups of people. And even if they were to, they had their own militia which didn't try to blend in with their wifes and children while shooting at others. Instead, they protected them.

Hamas has actually been shooting rockets from in the middle of residential areas, hoping that would give them protection from Israel retaliations. Some even hoped Israel would retaliate and that civilians would be killed so international pressure would come to bear. Extremely cowardly.

Hamas has told civilians to stay in those homes which are near where they're shooting rockets from and after Israel has spread leaflets warning them to get out for their own safety. Again, they are purposely risking and sacrificing their own civilians.

Also, stockpiles of rockets, arms and ammo have been found at schools and hospitals. Hamas truly has no concern or regard for the safety of their own people. They are the ones who should be internationally condemned.

The mere existence of those tunnels ought to cause the U.S. to deny funding to the PA. It is estimated that the tunnels cost about one million dollars each to construct and equip, there are dozens of them. This shows you the priorities of the PA and Hamas. Instead of using those millions for their own people, Hamas's idea of humanitarian aid is to dig tunnels into Israel for the purpose of acts of terrorism or to buy rockets which are then launched into Israeli cities, towns and communities indiscriminately -not that there would be an appropriate way to launch missiles into a neighboring country. Then they announce that they "love death in the same way Israelis love life," as if this is acceptable as any sort of civilized ideology. This is compounded by actually causing the deaths of elderly, children and women when Hamas "urges" them to fill areas Israel has warned them to evacuate. This behavior is incompatible with civilization and needs to be extinguished to the root.

I see very interesting comments here. Objectified states that Hamas are hiding behind women and children. When you live with your family (women and children) and someone is blowing your house up, then you have no choice but "be" with your family. Lets go back 150 years when Mormons were persecuted by others. Perhaps at that time the persecutors labeled Mormons as hiding behind their families because they were all together.

And CJB please do not forget that no matter how much persecution, Mormons stayed Mormons and traveled across the country to Salt Lake. They did not give up on their choice of faith, why should Palestinians give up on their choice just because a bully, a persecutor wants them out of their home.

With our church history and all that our people have suffered, and some still do, I can't believe that some of us are so blinded to the truth just because Israelis are Jews. Need I remind everyone that despite false general belief, our church doctrine does not state that Jews have to be in Israel for Jesus to come back. Israel is Zion which is your home, not a land in the Middle East.

Why do the Gazans keep re electing Hamas? This isn't the first time Hamas has made them suffer in a useless war.

It's extremely sad that Hamas military fighters sink to the dispicable depths of fighting from behind the cover of innocent civilians (men, women and children) and constantly endangering those civilian lives. Sadly, when Israel strikes back at precisely where mortar fire at them is coming from, civilians then get killed.

Any objective observer can understand that this entire current war started because Hamas was and continues firing rockets indiscriminately at Israeli cities. Israel's ongoing response is because the rockets are ongoing. Hamas has rejected all demands to stop firing their rockets. And until they do sstop, Israel maintains the right to defend itself and strike back at the locations the rockets are being fired from. As such, Hamas is primarily responsible for most of those civilian deaths since they are choosing to fire from civilian based locations.

There is no justifiable reason to not finish destroying the attack tunnels Hamas has created under the Israeli border... with or without a cease-fire. Destroying the tunnels endangers no civilians whatsoever and allows Israel to become safer.
