@ Chris B. I just hope the greedy Power 5 don't kill the Golden Goose that is college football! If they keep going, I see this becoming almost another NFL type of league. At this point, I'm concerned that the things that have always made college football special will vanish. This would become a real mistake if that indeed happens!

While I think it makes sense to give a full ride scholarship to student-athletes and maybe long-term health care, it is also time to set AND enforce higher minimum standards to the student portion of the student-athletes. They should know that just being good at a sport is not enough to earn these extra perks!

    @ Chris B.

"...as the days of playing a couple nobodies are likely over."

You think that by some freak luck you get a desperation appointment to fill an empty slot in the PAC 12 makes you...somebody?

Have you looked at your own record lately?

    FatMan,

The SEC actually has a ton of respect for the other power conferences. We all know we need the other big boy conferences as well as ours in order to have a great college football landscape.

Each conference has a lot of pride to be sure, and the SEC has a lot to be proud about. But they certainly keep in close communication with our conference, the ACC, the Big 10, and the Big 12(with only 10 teams because no other teams are worthy) as we make changes together.

We're well on our way to breaking off from being under the NCAA's control and further separating ourselves from the mid-major conferences. We'll be able to have significantly more control over what we pay our athletes and football will improve as the days of playing a couple nobodies are likely over. Its looking more and more that the Power 5 are becoming the new division I and we'll only play other division I teams or at most only play 1 mid major.

Only power 5 teams will be eligible for the playoffs. If the mid-majors want to set up their own bowl games and their own playoffs - fine, we don't care, just as we don't care about division II playoffs that happen today.

The divide between the Power 5 and the mid majors is about to grow even greater and I don't see any school that isn't part of the power 5 today ever becoming part.

    Go UTES!

I welcome and look forward to these changes and we can count our lucky stars we made it to the big time just in time!

Why do they even bother with the other 4 conferences of the Power 5? They are the mighty SEC. They owe nothing to the history of the game or the historical programs, rivalries, and match ups that have been the foundation of college football. No, the SEC built it all themselves, therefore they should keep all the money, and keep the focus on themselves because they are clearly that important.
