I would like some one to give us some basic information on who is backing who in the Iraq conflict.

Please correct me if I am wrong but this is my understanding. The Sunnis seemed to be supported by other Sunni nations specifically Saudi Arabia and the Shia or Shaiates seem to be supported by another Shia nation specifically Iran.

Is our goal being to allow Iraq to be split into three separate nations? If so it seems to be taking place.

A Kurdish area to the north, Bagdad the capital a Shia area and the other Sunni areas that have recently been occupied.

Will we be secretly be working with Iran to defend Bagdad with their boots on the ground and our intelligence and firepower?

Perhaps we made a mistake removing Saddam from power? Before the invasion he was ready to cut any deal we wanted to keep him in power.

I believe our invasion was a huge mistake.
