    This is one event that is going to lead to the downfall of our great nation. This is definitely not the only thing, but when people are willingly trashing their bodies like that in public, you can see where we are headed as a country.

    Marijuana is not a safe drug. The synthetic cannabis is even worse and dangerous. Anyone taking pot is stupid, stupid, stupid.

    Moontan said: "I remember when people gathered in the public square to protest unjust wars, social injustice, bad government."

    Let me add "prohibition" to the protests.

    @Rational: That study was deeply flawed and poorly conceived. It had to few study subjects and little or no controls.

    America consumes 80% of the worlds opiates, perhaps one should put more energy into a known killer.

    Frankly, I wouldn't lose sleep if every drug known to man became legal tomorrow, sold in state-controlled outlets and with ironclad laws which dealt severe punishment to those caught selling to children. If nothing else, crime rates would plummet overnight.

    There is a deeper issue here that causes me concern. Well, that should cause concern. I'm not surprised. The issue is ... I remember when people gathered in the public square to protest unjust wars, social injustice, bad government.

    Oh, well. "The best way to enslave a people is to give them what they want." Who said that? I can't remember.

    What's in a name? Must be irony of a sort in this case. Studies relating to the marginally negative impact of marijuana use bely the robust and morally imperative arguments for legalization/de-criminalization. For a country to allow the trade of alcohol, tobacco, synthetic and untested dietary supplements, pharmaceutical drugs, plant based sweeteners, antibiotic-injected meat, and harmful medical equipment that is often misused while allocating an extraorinary amount of resources in an unsuccessful attempt at curbing marijuana use is simply outrageous. Moreover, news outlets continuing to frown upon those who use marijuana while ignoring the injustices caused by attempting to ban the substance should be the main topic of concern for us citizens. So, why such selective outrage on your part? Rationality? Hardly...

    @John Charity Spring

    Can you provide a single example of a ruined life from marijuana alone? With no other contributing factors involved? Didn't think so.

    To quote the first contributor, "This marks the beginning of the end of ignorance towards pot in this country."

    Actually, Midvaliean, the ignorant are the advocates. Read the research. Marijuana harms the brain.

    "The present study demonstrates that, even in young, nondependent marijuana users, morphometric abnormalities relative to nonusers are observable, many of which are exposure dependent."

    This article points out the sad fact that a marijuana epidemic is destroying America's communities. It does imply that Colorado voters were hoodwinked by scheming profit seekers. However, it fails to place blame on one of the major contributors: modern Hollywood.

    The irrefutable fact is that modern Hollywood has glamorized marijuana and made it the hip drug for the grunge crowd. Indeed, Hollywood has made marijuana appear to be the only way to achieve fame, fortune, and sexual conquest.

    Hollywood's portrayal of marijuana as harmless recreation has ruined literally millions of lives. Shame on Hollywood and it's liberal agenda. Utah must never give up and give in to the sort of left-wing extremism that has infested Colorado.
