Sorry Mike Richards, but yes, it was a bit racist.

It was a dig at the fact that BECAUSE Mr. Gill grew up in India he somehow is making an incorrect legal judgement because of his experiences being Indian. This ruling wasn't based on a "world view," it was based on looking at the statements of the police, witnesses, and the facts of the investigation, and finding inconsistencies, as you, yourself, pointed out. Mr. Gill, growing up in India had absolutely NOTHING to do with those inconsistencies nor his ruling on them. So, why did Mr. Bennion even bother bringing it up?

The fact that you can't see the racism in Mr. Bennion's comments makes me a bit suspect of your "world view."

    2 Timothy 4:3

3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

Chad Bennion's comments were his usual cheap, baseless, lowbrow attempt to inject a nasty note of us-vs-them politics into a rational, evidence-based legal inquiry.

Republicans, you need to either own-up to the fact that this embarrassing hack is representing you in Salt Lake County and deal with it like responsible adults, or stop acting all surprised and angry when you keep losing elections.

The Deseret News has become very liberal and it really makes me angry.

Mr. Gill was raised in India. His world view, based on things he saw and experienced while living in India, is different from your world view or my world view. Mr. Bennion pointed that fact out. Is that racist? If someone said that my world view differed from theirs because I lived in Belgium and France for a few years, would they be accused of being racist?

Mr. Gill told us that the facts presented by the police officers did not support the evidence collecting in that shooting. Based on the evidence collected, Mr. Gill stated that those officers were not justified in using deadly force.

If a police officer falsified information that police officer should be removed from the police force and then prosecuted if prosecution is warranted. Things happen quickly in a drug related confrontation, but that should never justify falsifying information.

Is the Deseret News required to report every word uttered by every public official on every subject?

What does it say about people that support the vile comments of Mr Bennion. Disagree on issues and decisions but you don't need to rationalize your disagreement with comments like that. It reflects on your mother.

    This isn't a D vs R issue! This isn't a Liberal vs Conservative issue! It's a racist vs non-racist issue.

Mr. Dillion, did you even read what GOP Chairman Chad Bennion said about our District Attorney, Sim Gill? Please review them. Not only were his remarks outlandish but offensive and racist. Had Chad Bennion been a Democrat, he would have been asked to step down already.

We, the people of Utah, cannot tolerate racism in any shape or form. Asking the Dnews to defend Chad Bennion is not conservative. In fact, it is asking the Dnews to defend and promote racist behavior.

Chad Bennion owes all of us an apology, especially Mr. Gill. He should also show some class and step down. The position of GOP Chair deserves much more respect than Mr. Bennion has displayed. This isn't a political issue, but a racist vs non-racist issue. I guess the question is, are we racists or not?

I had a similar experience with this issue. I was disappointed not to find the story in the DN anywhere. I saw it on TV news and it made my jaw drop. How can Republicans put up with racist-tinged statements like that? Bennion's job as party head should clearly be in jeopardy.

Chad Bennion, SL County GOP chairman, attacked Mr. Gill for the results of his investigation into the shooting of Ms. Willard. The investigation wwas conducted because of the many questions regarding the shooting. Mr. Bennion was upset because the results did not have the result he desired. he then proceeded to make a thinly veiled refernce to Mr. Gills national origion. It was later revealed that Mr. Bennions wife had been in court on a child abuse charge that was resolved the afternoon of the Willard investigatioin result. Would the only result you would have been satisfied with absolving the police? Investigation seek answers not foregone co0nclusions. i believe Mr. Bennion owes Mr. gill an apology for his ill advised remarks.Perhaps the Deseret News concluded that their was no justification for what Mr. Bennion said about the investigatiion results.

Chad Bennion's view that the police should have a license to kill without repercussions in indefensible.

For years, I've turned to the Deseret News for fair, un-biased truth in Utah. So imagine my surprise on any given day?

At any rate -- your letter only confirms my suspicions.

Yes, the "conservative" paper should support all extreme conservative rhetoric and spin it like Hannity. Especially tea party comments because they must be cheered under any circumstance, especially if mean spirited like the comments about the District Attorney.

I believe Utah has seen a large problem from Ogden to other places in the state of an abuse of power by a few members of the police, based on the 4th amendment and state law. I have no problem with Sim Gill calling them on it.

You do need to also weigh that Sim Gill is the most likely candidate the democratic party has to replace John Swallow as AG. That story creates its own bias.

Why would a defense of Chad Bennion be "conservative"?
