    This is a dark day for democracy in Egypt. Anyone who sees this as giving hope has been so overcome with anti-Muslim prejudice that they fail to see democracy must work on regular rules, and one of those rules is elections matter and people fill out terms. Just because you dislike peoples position does not justify forcing them out of office. The military stepping in is a reversion to the status quo ante the Arab Spring.

    This should give us all hope that the Arab Spring may turn out to be more than a transition to Islamist regimes. If the Middle East can find a way to shake off the totalitarian aspects of religion the way the West did a few hundred years ago, we might just make it after all.
