Did we waste money, and lives by going to Iraq?

If you truly wanted opinions from others, your question wouldn't have involved Obama and whether or not he knew what he was doing. The question should have been straightforward: Should we have left Iraq or kept our troops there?

I never did think hanging around Iraq and trying to bring some kind of democratic government was a smart move. In Arab/Muslim countries, the religion will always be the most powerful force in government. That was Bushs biggest mistake, believing that Iraq could become a "friendly" nation when it is ultimatly going to be dominated by either Shiite or Sunni Muslims. They don't want our form of governance any more than we would want to live under their Islamic form.

@UT Brit---I didn't want Iraq in the first place, but we spent a ton of money, and lost alot of lives. By pulling out too soon, we wasted the effort, and like Vietnam, men died for nothing.

I was asking others opinion on this. That's what people with integrity do to broaden their minds.

Hahaha priceless. You are always complaining about Obama and how much he spends but you want to stay in Iraq for longer? I would bet $1000 you would be complaining about the troop levels if they were still there right now. Do you have a single bit of integrity in your body?

Mark B--Worf didn't express an opinion, but asked a question.

Considering the lives, and funding which was lost, the question is valid.

So NOW worf is worried about Iraqi lives? In this country dozens dead in bomb blasts would be major news, but it may not carry the same weight in Iraq, which already has war deaths in seven figures and displaced in numbers even larger.

And, just as a reminder, all our troops came home because an agreement between our government and Iraq'a regarding the legal status of individual US soldiers couldn't be worked out. So our troops were only there about ten years instead of the unlimited stay we enjoy in Germany, Korea and Japan. If this displeases worf, he should take his protest to Baghdad.

    I don't know.

Did Obama know what he was doing when he brought the troops home?
