Alcohol, cars, lay-offs, wars, abortions, etc. These kill more people then guns in American schools.

    Picking on guns is discrimination.

President Barack Obama urges new spending restrictions in the wake of the Fiscal Cliff.

    Now that would be news!

@Old Man The reason not much is said about the one and two deaths per incident is the corrupt media can not whip the anti gunners up unless it is sensational. That is their motive. The media portrays gun owners as killers. Liberals do it with Abortions. Anyone keeping score between the two. And by the way there are enough gun laws but like the NY fireman killer he just did not care about laws.

I am not a gun person
I do not own a gun
    I do not hunt
I do not even go camping during hunting season because I do not like to be around people with guns

However, I do find it interesting to note that most massacres occur in gun free zones and the person who recently killed firefighters was banned from owning a gun

Apparently criminals do not obey gun laws

(perhaps even Allisdair may understand that)

Gun law do not keep bad people from obtaining guns. Gun laws might make liberals "feel good" but they are infective. That crazy felon in NY that murdered those firemen broke existing gun control laws, but obviously, the laws didn't stop him. All gun control laws do is restrict honest people from defending themselves against the nuts and evil people out there! A gun in my hand is better for me and my family than a cop on the phone.
The problem can not be solved by passing more laws that criminals will never obey. America will never become a better country until Americans become better!

There are far fewer people killed by guns then by cars.
Old people kill more people with cars peryear, then there are people killed with guns. The elderly are dangerous in a car, many of them can not see clearly, they drive to slow for conditions and their response time is abismal at best. Yet everyday they are allowed out on the street. Old Man....hand over your keys, for the good of the public. I bet you would throw a fit....Yet driving is a privilage not a right guarenteed by the constitution. Gun ownership is a right.
Most suicides are commited by other means besides with a gun. Most sucides are carbon monoxide or drug overdose. Outlaw cars, medication?
These horrific school shootings make the news because they are so very rare! As do almost every other shooting, with the exception of suicide. Suicides are not put on the news, because the news media knows the 15 minutes of fame would encourage more desparate people to act.
NO ONE would shoot up a school if they knew they would meet with an armed officer or exmilitary personal. The solutions are ly in protecting the children!

Have shootings become so commonplace that they merit very little attention. Have they become as routine as auto accidents and obtain no news coverage beyond a mention unless they are as horrific as the school shootings?

Notice how little attention is being paid to the firefighter deaths in New York. Notice how little coverage has been given to two recent Utah shootings that left two dead and two wounded. Have Americans in general become so accustomed to shootings that they stir no real concern?

Apparently there is no one keeping good records of shootings. The few sites I can find are usually badly slanted to either extreme. There is little information about how many guns used are "legal" versus "illegal." The New York shooter was "illegal." The two in Utah were apparently "legal." Based on what I've been able to find, it appears that the majority of guns used in shootings and suicides are "legal."

We have a serious problem that we've ignored far too long.

Solutions are out there -- but finding them might be very hard unless both sides soften their stances.

If absolutely no regulation was intended, why is that word in the Second Amendment?
