@ProudBigBrother - My posts on DesNews and SLTrib have been about Riverton 4 years ago, about Herriman the past 3 years and will continue to be about Herriman the next 3 years because I have son's on the team. No other team concerns me.

Yes..."could of, should of, would of" is still in effect because it is still affecting the 4A playoffs. Mountain Crest v Timpview is a semi-final game. Timpview vs East is a championship game. I actually have no distaste of East. Throughout the entire appeal process...my feelings were that East should be allowed in the playoffs. When Herriman drew East in the 1st round...I was shocked...but I knew Herriman would play East competitively. What's funny is that everyone on here had predictions of East winning by 20 to 40 points.

You say Herriman hasn't proven anything. I think they have proven about as much as a 3 year school could have. 20 wins, 3 playoff appearances, 1 playoff win and 1 region title. I'm not sure how much more a school in our position could do in 3 years...other than make it to Rice-Eccles...which we were expecting this year!!!

Benzo, your posts only bother me in that they are still focused on Herriman, and what "coulda, woulda, shoulda" been (quoting Golden Helmet, not you) had the UHSAA made a different decision. I, and everyone else talking to you, it seems, simply feel that the Herriman topic of conversation has run it's course. The decisions that have led to this point have long ago been made, and the outcomes decided on the field. What would have happened without Timpview and East competing is irrelevant. Your distaste for East and their allowance into the playoffs, while understandable, is no longer worth mentioning, since they have now been booted from title contention by a better team. So can we move on? Please?

Go Timpview and Mount Crest! Let's see some good competition!

@ProudBigBrother - I'm not sure why my posts bother you so much. I simply am stating facts. I never disrespect other teams in my posts...I only highlight my opinions about Herriman. In regards to East...Herriman scored the 3rd most points...behind only Logan and Timpview. In regards to East...Herriman held East to its 3rd lowest total...behind only Timpview and Box Elder. In regards to East...Herriman's loss by 11 points was the lowest winning margin of all of East's wins.

As far as saying Herriman hasn't proven anything...I can say I agree...but most teams in 4A haven't proven anything. Historically...Timpview is the only "Elite" team in 4A with possibly East, Mountain Crest or Highland in the discussion. As far as for the 2012 season...Herriman was one of the 4 best teams in 4A. I can name Timpview, East and Logan as teams better than Herriman...other than that...I can't think of any other teams.

Herriman beat every team they should have, lost to 1 team they should have and lost to 2 teams they shouldn't have. Herriman garnered a record of 16-7 in 2 years of 4A football.

Seriously, Benzo?!?!?! Really? You're still touting Herriman's horn? To what end? What is the end-game you're looking for? Because I'll tell you this much, if all your touting throughout the season, and all the play on the field wasn't enough to make everyone bow down and salute Herriman for the super 4A power that you're convinced it is, then your post-elimination rants won't either. They are a good team, with FUTURE potential, but nothing more. Not yet.

Everyone was doubting Syracuse (and Region 1 as a whole), so they had to go out and prove themselves. Now everyone is a believer, Syracuse is the real deal! They have EARNED the respect of all the players, coaches and fans in Utah. However, had they beat Alta but lost to Bingham, I doubt everyone would have been convinced. Regardless of what happens next week, hats off to Syracuse.

But Herriman hasn't proven anything. They beat the teams they should have and lost to the teams they should have (and 1 they shouldn't have). They play well, are well coached and have a bright future, but they need to do more.

Go Thunderbirds! I expected no less of you, Timpview, and you delivered. One more down, one more to go! Good luck next weekend!

East, good season. I'm glad you got the chance to make a run in the playoffs. I would have never been satisfied with the outcome of the playoffs if you (and Timpview for that matter) hadn't been allowed to compete.

It's true, this was in all likelihood the championship game. But who cares that it didn't take place in the final game? How often do we see the same thing happen, in a variety of sports? All the time. For a while, whoever won the western NBA conference was basically the NBA champions, because the east was pretty weak for a while. That doesn't make those champion teams any less worthy. The best team was the last one standing and earned the title, just like Timpview or Mountain Crest will next week. Fairness and justice are served on the field.

You picked it right, Edwards. I noticed that Parry gave East the edge in his picks. Just spoke with my 3 Timpview sons (2 starters and a 1st option backup). They know that they haven't won a title yet. No region title (though after this game vs East some have labeled us the Cheaters Bowl Champs.) No. They beat a projected state champ in East. We will never know if this was the same East team that started the year in such a dominant manner because of their challenges late in the season. Logan caught them when they thought themselves ousted from the playoffs. Definite emotional factor in that game's outcome. Was East not projected the same way last year? Timpview players are hungry! They are NOT looking past Mountain Crest thinking that the game on Friday is a given. They have not forgotten Springville in 2010. A perfect season that came to a grinding halt! They respect and are preparing for a peaking Mountain Crest team. We welcome the challenge posed by a talented defense, complimented by Eddy Hall and a potent offense. Can't wait to see how this plays out next week! GO (ANGRY) TBIRDS!!!!!!

You can't put much stock into the games today except for maybe the Timpview game where they showed they were vastly superior to East, plus the weather had tempered a bit for that game. The Highland-Mountain Crest game was played in ugly conditions. I suspect that Mountain Crest was better than what they showed in that game, weather evens out things a lot. The weather then got bad again for the Dixie-Juan Diego game. It effected Juan Diego's special teams especially. But weather is weather and things happen.

And Herriman losing to Skyline is problematic if you want to put the Mustangs in the 4A elite. Bottom line is that you don't lose to a mediocre team if you're a great team. Timpview lost to Alta, it's only loss on the field by a mere two points. It beat Lone Peak at Lone Peak. Mountain Crest beat Logan and won their league and Logan beat East, last game or not, and the Grizzlies were the returning 4A champs who lost one game all year long, t to Mountain Crest before they ran into Timpview.

Great job Timpview on the win over East!

I agree with eagle that people are selling Mountain Crest a bit short. Look at what Syracuse has done. It is too bad that the weather seemed to have a large impact on that game. They just may dominated Highland like they did to Bountiful. They may have even had a better than 50% chance to beat East. Timpview defiantly has to tools to dominate but they can't slack off for the championship game.

Lastly, Where do people get off suggesting that Timpview should have been eliminated from the playoffs. They would have to blatantly ignore the rules to punish Timpview to that extent. A much bugger deviation from precedent than what they did with East.

Timpview proved to y'all haters what's up. Timpview is the best in the state and we proved it today. Besides our only loss this year was by 3 points to Alta. We held East under 27 (Herriman thought they were the only ones that could do that),and under 21 (Box Elder did that). 14 baby! We would have been able to score more but thanks to the weather condition, we only got up to 34. Our running game is dependable as is our passing game. Give credit where credit is due and let it go. We go ham on people anytime, anyone, anywhere.

Great game to East though, thanks for the memories!

@Golden Helmet - I can't agree with you on that one...I don't think anyone would put Skyline over Herriman...regardless of the outcome of the game. Herriman's Region 7 co-champs laid eggs in round 1. How could Olympus let Highland win??? How could Skyline let Bountiful kill them by 30 points???

You have it twisted a bit...I concede to East. Based off how games have progressed...I think East and Timpview are the only teams that could beat Herriman in the playoffs. A likely scenario for Herriman would have been losing to East in a close semi-final game or if by some chance Herriman got past East...Herriman losing to Timpview in the finals.

There is no "coulda, shoulda, woulda" over here. The fact is a better Championship game is Timpview vs East. The best semi-final games are Timpview vs Mountain Crest and East vs Herriman. The UHSAA decision prevented the best possible games from happening at the best possible times. East vs Herriman was played 2 weeks too early. East vs Timpview was played 1 week too early and Timpview vs Mountain Crest will be played 1 week to late!!!

My man Benzo, you forgot one team to put over Herriman, that is Skyline. Lest ye forget, they beat Herriman, regardless of what has happened since, Herriman still lost. Regardless of score and circumstance, Herriman still lost to East.

I am happy that the East game is over, in that we can move on from the unfortunate events. What is truly unfortunate is that we are still hearing the "coulda, shoulda, woulda's" from Benzo about Herriman. Give it a rest, you guys were co region champs with two others. You did not take state. Root on your Mustangs for basketball, wrestling, or whatever, but seriously, give it a rest.

I agree with Eagle, don't count out Mt Crest. They destroyed Bountiful, who destroyed Skyline, who beat Herriman, who as we all know is the best 4A team, despite being co champs and a first round loser.

@footballfan8 - I understand about Timpview forfeiting games. I just feel that when an ineligible player is found and the result will affect the playoffs...then there should only be two options: Either the team cannot be in the playoffs or the forfeit games but retain their seeding.

@eagle - It is possible that everyone is selling Mountain Crest short...I know I am. I'm not so sure about taking Mountain Crest over Herriman. A close loss to Lone Peak and a big win over Bountiful (who I think is overrated) are the only games that stand out for Mountain Crest. In regards to Herriman....I can only put two teams above them...Timpview and East. And even East I would love to get another shot at them!!! Herriman scored the 3rd most amount points against East...behind only Logan and Timpview. Herriman held East to its 3rd lowest amount of points...behind only Box Elder and Timpview. Herriman also had the lowest margin of victory for any of East's wins.

I think one is selling Mountain Crest a bit short. Let's say how they play Timpview, if they play them better than East then maybe all was how it should be...

And I would take Mountain Crest over Herriman BTW...

Actually timpview did forfeight all the games that there was an ineligible player but that was only during two region games and he was at the end. East in the other hand had an ineligible starter apparently

Props to Timpview for doing what the UHSAA didn't have the guts to do - boot East from the playoffs!!

  • BigBenzo88 Herriman, UT
    Nov. 9, 2012 6:32 p.m.

This game is a reminder of how much the UHSAA screwed these playoffs up. The new rule in regards to ineligibility and the playoffs should be do or die: Either the team is removed from the playoffs or they stay in the playoffs at the current seeding.

Both East and Timpview should have been removed from the playoffs or both should have retained their #1 seed.

    East/Timpview out of playoffs:
QUARTERFINALS: Highland v Orem; MC v Bountiful; Logan v WX; Herriman vs Box Elder
SEMIFINALS: Highland v MC; Logan v Herriman
    FINALS: MC v Herriman

    East/Timpview #1 Seeds:
QUARTERFINALS: Bountiful v Timpview; MC v WX; Logan v East; Herriman v Orem
SEMIFINALS: Timpview v MC; East v Herriman
    FINALS: Timpview v East

The semifinal game today between Timpview & East should have been the Championship game. The game between Highland and MC was of little significance.

With Timpview and East in the playoffs...those teams should have played in the finals with Timpview being the Champ. With both teams out of the playoffs....Logan, Herriman and MC all would have had chances at a championship.

UHSAA has to improve and make some changes!!!!

I figured Lloyd was playing at too high of level for East to handle. He and Kafentzis are the best QB's in the state by a large measure though the Barney kid of Dixie I would rate as a strong third.

Congrats to the TImpview. Having watched both teams against Logan, I would have been shocked by a different outcome. East is also a great team but was vulnerable to turnovers and undisciplined play. It got them. Two great teams, congrats on the season for both. An upset though? Hardly.
