I wouldn't discount Syracuse's win last year over Alta, their D line dominated Alta and shut down both the run and pass game. Sure injuries didn't help the Hawks, but Syracuse was the better team that day and deserve the credit for winning the game. Even before the QB and RB went down with injuries they didn't do much offensively.
I do agree that Alta is deeper and better offensively now than they were last year, and the QB and four receivers are better, but I think it will be a close game.
Syracuse is good, so is Alta, we'll see how the game plays out.

Not only were both QB's and their star running back out for the game last year, but do was Alta's also-then star receiver, Ammon Barker. As he said in the tribune story on last week's game, Alta is itching for some payback to avenge last year's team!

I have to agree with calpreps, that Alta had some bad luck last year all at once in the Syracuse game. A healthy Alta would've beaten Syracuse last year. It's really hard to lose not only your starting quarterback, but your starting running back as well in a single game. It happened to Alta. Then the backup quarterback as well went down with an injury as well. Tough, tough blow for the Hawks. Injuries usually do not happen like this in single game, but it did to Alta last year. I don't see this happening again, and this years Alta team has more depth on the offense than we had a year ago. Alta's offense is loaded to the hilt, and probably has three of the best receivers in the state, that have both received offers to play for Kyle Whittingham. And Alta's D, is just tough. I don't think Syracuse will be able to stop all of the weapons that the Hawks offense has, and Syracuse is going to have to score allot of points to keep up with the Hawks. I don't see this happening against the Hawks defense.

Injuries are the only reason Syracuse beat Alta last year. Alta lost their starting quarterback and starting running back in that game, and they also lost the backup quarterback to injuries as well. Yes, it was all in the Syracuse game. Freak thing to happen, but it happened. Alta has way to much talent and I don't see the injury bug hitting like last years game. Alta D is tough, and the offense has way to many weapons. Alta will move on.

This football season has been awesome so far. This game this week with Syracuse and Alta will also be good to be at. I know Alta is looking for revenge from last years playoff game. What I cant figure out is why Alta and their fans think they are going to come to Syracuse and walk all over them. Alta has some great athletes that can play ball but the last time I checked Syracuse doesnt play 8 man football. I'm greatful that your nephew plays for Alta and they are focused because they will need to be. Syracuse hasnt forgotten that they did come in and beat a good team last year. These kids and coaches just dont talk much about week to week games. They just go out and play and take care of business. Both teams have great athletes and great coaches. I am ready for a great game. Go Cuse shoot the Hawks again.

Alta is the clear favorite against Syracuse. Alta is better than ever and has learned from last year. My nephew plays for Alta and he and the rest of the team will show Syracuse how to play. It won't be like last year it will be a Syracuse thumping. Teams get lucky and that was the Syracuse of last year. This is a new year baby. Go hawks!

Riverton was never in this game, period. Alta dominated every aspect of the game and could've easily put two or three more td's up if they would've wanted to. The first 3 points were enough to win the game, Riverton didn't even score on the Alta JV, it was against mostly their sophomore team.
I would say Syracuse will be the favorite, they are setting their sights on Bingham and Jordan at Rice-Eccles, they owned Alta last year and it sounds like they expect they'll roll over them again this year.

Did he really just say that Riverton was allowed back into the game? Up 27-0, with a lot of time left to play, Alta benched their starters, as they have done in the previous 3 games, as well. Alta's much improved first-string defense hasn't given up any points in 4 straight games now, with the exception of a special teams score by Copper Hills; Cottonwood's points were also against Alta's second-string defense.
Score over the last 4 games: Alta 180, Opponents 32 (and again, no TD's against the Hawks first-string D). Syracuse is a great team this year, like last year, and playing at home will help their cause, but Alta is out for revenge, and the Hawks have the talent to make it happen! Go Hawks!
