No Doubt that Juan Diego and Stansbury are good, but this is what I know. Dixie
beat Springville more than Juan Diego did, so any top Region 9 team will compete
with JD. Also, Stansbury played a Desert Hills team that sat several of its
starting players. No doubt Stansbury is good, but they didn't play a 100%
Desert Hills team. Anyway, state begins this week, and it will all be settled
within a few weeks. It should be fun!
Hey Utah Bruin, and sorry you like the Bruins over the Trojans, but why would
you not even consider JUan Diego playing in the final?
My thoughts.....5A SemisSyracuse vs. Bingham = Syracuse
defense is way to stout. Syracuse advancesLone Peak vs. Jordan = Lone
Peak gets the lucky side of the bracket draw and Jordan hangs 50+ on them to
advance4A SemisBountiful vs. Timpview = I also think Mtn
Crest is getting upset in the first round, and this winner could upset Bountiful
as well. But I will stick with this and Timpview moves on.Region 8 #3 Who
I think will be Maple Mountain vs. Herriman = I will take the size speed and
experience of Herriman.*I would have taken East vs. Herriman, but
that won't happen. And I think that would have been a great game to see
with East winning in the end 34-175A FinalsSyracuse vs.
Jordan = Offense vs Defense, what a match up. But which Jordan team shows up?
I will still take Jordan 38-144A FinalsTimpview vs.
Herriman = I think a very exciting game, Timpview is good, but so is Herriman.
I like Herriman in the upset 17-163A FinalsStansbury vs.
Hurricane - HurricanePine View vs. Desert Hills - Pine ViewWINNER -

Orem wins tonight then they will No. 2 from Region 8, Maple Mountain No. 3 and
Timpanogos No. 4. If Timpanogos wins all bets are off, unless somebody knows if
the principals flipped the coins and how that came out. Biggest
winners from the Timpview and East flap are Cyprus and Mountain View. Cyprus is
in as the 4th seed for the play-in game. But Mountain View even more. The
Bruins no longer have to play-in to get into the play-in game, their forfeit win
over Timpview gives them three wins and one clear of Salem Hills and
Springville. East isn't the only loser in this. Of course Timpview's
follies didn't hurt the T-Birds at all. They got two meaningless forfeit
losses in pre-season and one loss in region but still won the league. But Salem
Hills and Springville lost their chance to compete for the right to go to the
state tournament. So while everyone whines about East consider their other
victims here that are just collateral damage that actually had bad timing (when
they were "lucky" enough to have played Timpview) and played by the
3A semis pine view vs hurricane, desert hills vs dixie, finals pine view vs
dixie, dixie wins
@Spokane UteIt's all about the region record here in Utah.
Without getting into all the specifics of play in games and all that stuff, the
top 4 teams in each region qualify for the playoffs. Viewmont (I'm
assuming you're talking about them) has a 2-8 overall record, but they went
2-3 in their region finishing in 4th place whereas two other schools finished
1-4 and 0-5 in region play.If you look at region 5 in 4A, Sky View
finished 5-5 overall and Roy finished 6-4 overall, but Sky View finished 2-3 and
Roy finished 1-4 in region play. Therefore, Sky View gets into the playoffs and
Roy stays home this offseason.
5A - Jordan,Syracuse,Alta, Bingham & Northridge are the contenders. Jordan
has the edge with their O line and QB in addition to playing a very tough
schedule. Alta is putting up big points..their passing attack is impressive and
better than last year, but their run game and defense seem down a bit. Syracuse
has a much better offense than last year and their defense has better speed than
in previous years...the question for Syracuse is will they still play with that
chip on their shoulder that gives them the edge now that they are getting so
much press. Bingham has the athletes to make a deep run, but I think their
coaches are a bit over-rated. Northridge is the dark horse...they don't
have a lot of size, but they play harder and hit harder than anyone. Their
coaches are under-rated and they have the most explosive running back I have
seen in years. If their passing game can produce off the play action, they
might be able to give Jordan an early 2nd round threat.
Looking at the Brackets...5A: Semi's: Syracuse vs. Bingham...
Jordan* vs. Lone Peak4A: Semi's: Timpview vs. MC........ Herriman*
vs. Logan3A: Semi's: Spanish vs. Desert..... Hurricane vs.
Stansbury*Baring upsets with Northridge and Box Elder
@Binghamalum - Thats not exactly how it works with the tie breaker in Region 3,
read it again. The two winners from each half are in and then it goes to their
head to head matchups from the regular season to determine the seeding. It
breaks down like this.WJ and C-Wood win - WJ 3rd and C-Wood 4thWJ and Brighton win - Brighton 3rd and WJ 4thBrighton and C-Wood win -
C-Wood 3rd and Brighton 4th
Thank you UTOutlaw and binghamalum! I had no idea, and never would have
suspected, that the regions have different tie-breaker rules!I am
planning on attending the Brighton vs Cottonwood vs West Jordan game, just
because it is so intriguing. Would be especially weird if, say, the first half
required OT to determine who plays West Jordan in the second half!Lucky Fremont! They had a horrible season, then upset Layton in their last
game of the season to get their second win of the year, and viola....a coin flip
later, and they're a 4th seed in the playoffs.
Yes Jordan is Region 3 first seed, Alta is the Region 3 second seed. This puts
Alta at Syracuse in round two and if Alta and Bingham win their first two they
will meet in the semi's.I have Alta v Bingham in one semi and Lone
Peak and Jordan in the other one, with an Alta vs Jordan rematch for the
title. With that said I think Syracuse, Bingham, Alta, and Jordan all have
a shot to win it all this year.
This is not a good system when you have teams with records like 2-8 or 3-6
getting into the playoffs. They need to have a minimum win total of at least 4
or 5 to be in the playoffs. I would give the top seeds a bye if the lowest
ranked teams don't have enough wins. I know some Regions are stronger than
others, but this looks stupid.
How in the world does a 2-8 team make the state playoffs? In Washington you
better be atleast 10-2, or your'e not getting in.
Not so fast 2020. The forfeit win over Timpview gives MV 3 wins and sole
possession of the 5 seed.
I am sure it is just a clerical error but I don't think region 12 2 will be
playing both Hurricane and Dixie as shown in the brackets.
Isn't it pretty clear that Jordan will be 1 and Alta 2 out of Region 3?
fremont won the coin toss! so in region 1 tiebraker, you get the automatic bid
into the playoffs,#4 seedso Layton and davis are playing a win
or go home tiebraker, win your #3, lose your out! Where regoin 3 is
really smart! There tiebraker is Brighton plays Cottonwood for a
half, win, they get the #3 seed, if they lose the half, Cwood gets it, and who
ever loses plays West Jordan in the 2nd half and that winner would be the 4TH
seed. Two different tie breakers, makes no sense!
Region 1 has tie breakers set up that the winner of the coin toss gets the 4
seed and the other two have the play-in for the 3 seed
In Region 1, Syracuse and Northridge are clearly #1 and #2. Davis, Layton, and
Fremont all finished 2-3, tied for #3 through #5. In games among these three
teams, each team finished 1-1.Could somebody please explain why
Davis and Layton are playing a play-in game to determine the Region 1 #3 seed?
And what about Fremont--are they the #4 seed or are they excluded? And why?
Springville, Salem Hills and Mountain View have to have a three way play-in
game, so that they can get into the play-in game. I'll be interested to
see how all this plays out.
