Sportfanforlife: OK. You got me on that one. I'll have to admit I didn't watch the whole game. I missed that play. You're right. I concede. Both teams stink. ;)

    Juice Box,

The utes were disciplined? Let's not fool each other. Sometimes the better team doesn't win. It was pure one hundred percent luck, but that's ok. Colorado was better disciplined, or lucky?

    Not luck, it's called "discipline".

thats funny you only mention byu's fumble mishap. what about utah's that gave byu the ball on the 15 yard line? lol guess you all like to look past that one cause it doesnt benefit the excuses byu fans have even tho you "lean further toward utah" lol.

haha get real. you were lucky to beat utah at your own place in overtime. "best in state by far" hahaha yes, the delusion has DEFINITELY hit logan. you couldnt even beat a terrible wisconsin team that, lets not forget a BAD oregon state team beat.haha you beat utah once in like 15 years and now its "you cant beat the aggies." you can thank the officials for that one. apparently its only a offensive pass interference when utah does it cause it sure didnt get called when byu blatantly does it.

Although BYU had almost a hundred more yards moving the ball, it was missed field goals. penalties, and turnovers that lost the game.

    Clear case of luck.

    Go Utes

Enjoyed your post. It was a good game to watch, every emotion experienced!

" yes the QB factory is shut down for good." In your dreams.

You're on quite the BYU ragging rant aren't you?

I seem to remember your bench QB Saturday looking like a scared rabbit.

If Hays goes down, you're in good hands. LOL

Taysom looks confident and has already made contributions.

No doubt, he will become a great BYU QB.

Back when the Y had Detmer I think any Y or U fan would have to admit that they just couldn't see how the U football program would ever eclipse the Y.... but here we are in 2012 and the U football program is flat out better than the Y. Much better. Better coaches, better athletes, better conference, better record , better everything. BYU is a sinking ship without a conference and the well is drying up fast. No more quality All American QB's - yes the QB factory is shut down for good. The once high flying pro-style offense that just threw the ball down field relentless on any defense is no more. In its place is this weak, unexciting, run oriented offense that tries to throw the ball short but sticks to the run for the most part. Yikes.... this is like going back to the early pre-Virgil Carter years. BYU put itself on the map because of the wide open passing game and they stuck to it for 40 years. Great run but all things come to an end at some point. BYU needs a fresh approach and return to what made em great.

As a byu fan, I will say what others wont say. I dont care to play Utah anymore. We simply cannot beat them. Mentally, they have our number. I am pretty convinced that our defense truly is one of the best in the Nation, but they cant carry us every game. And, they truly cant play to their potential when they are on the field 80 percent of the game. So, Utah is better in football, enough said. We will continue to waste them in every other sport, and I will take some pride in that.

    Earnest T. Bass--

your sarcasm is always right on point! BYU fans will make up things, like our AD being a coward, in order to talk Utah smack. Do I believe Utah would beat Utah State if they played them again? Yes, but that is never going to happen, so for now I have to give props to Utah State as the best team in the state. You see how thats done BYU fans? give credit where credit is due, no excuses. Oh yeah, and I know most BYU fans are perfectly reasonable just like most Utah fans, and most Utah State fans... and Chris B. you are nuts if you think we are going to the Rose Bowl!

Wait the title is "Utes get what they wanted" but I thought Utah didn't want to schedule BYU anymore, i.e. they don't actually "want" this...?

I think the break from the break from Utah will be good for the rivalry in the long run. They could play each other every 3 years and the emotions would run just as high, if not higher, with 3 years in between games. BYU's intent in going independent was in part to take its show on the road to different opponents around the country and not having the Utah game each year will give them one more prime September game. Very few teams--if any--go undefeated in any given year and it's easy to confuse college sports with STUDENT-athletes to pro sports, as far as wanting one's team to win. Football is not these students' job and likely isn't their top priority...nor should it be. The thrill of playing on a team and competing, bettering oneself, all while getting an education at a reduced cost is a good deal.

Let me preface my remarks by saying, I'm not a fan of either team. Have a hard time understanding the rage that exists between people over a game. (Wow, set myself up with that quip, didn't I?)

That said: "We had them on the ropes" ?? Giggles. But for a stupid error by BYU in attempting to scoop up a bad snap rather than fall on it, Utah would be eating humble pie. I think BYU had the U on the ropes and then foolishly dropped their guard.

That said: Good for Utah. Some semblance of dignity regained after USU whooped on them.

That said: I probably lean furher toward the U than the Y, but that part doesn't really matter. I just get a kick out of the screaming and name calling...

You've been duped by one of your own. Earnest T. Bass is a Ute fan (of the classiest sort) trying to make fun of BYU fans. He likes to help create the stereotypes he enjoys making fun of so much.

So if BYU fans don't fit the stereotypes you love to hate them for, he'll help fabricate the stereotype for you.

    @ Lake Powell

Totally agree that the rivalry should continue. These games are so much fun. I am livid about Chris Hill's decision to discontinue. I attended the Northern Colorado game (and the BYU game--I have season tickets), and as I watched the Utes roll over them, I thought to myself: "These types of games are what we are getting instead of BYU?" By contrast, as the game on Saturday was winding down, I thought to myself, "Win or lose, this has been one entertaining game"--which after all is the point of sports: to entertain. This rivalry is a great tradition in the state and it is a shame to see it getting put on hold for any reason.

Good game on Saturday. Came down to the wire as it so often does. Could have easily gone the other way. Looking forward to next year's game, and hoping that the decision to hold off on the rivalry will be reconsidered.

    Go Utes!

    Sept. 17, 2012 9:03 a.m.

    To Football Fans:

It is time to put away petty comments. On Saturday night the young men of both teams gave us all one of the greatest games we have ever seen. Exciting, heart thumping and gritty to the end. To criticize these hard working athletes is irresponsible. They deserve our good sportsmanship.

My team lost. And so I offer my congratulations to the Utah. It is a game of inches and Saturday night those inches belonged to you.

To suggest that either of these teams is not worthy just shows the fans ignorance of the game. Both BYU and Utah are very good football teams with bright futures. They work hard and each strive to what they can to win.

No one knows the outcome of any game. That is why we play them. To see how the ball will bounce. In the end it bounced for Utah. Real BYU fans should congratulate the winner and move on. Real Utah fans should recognize the hard work of the foe and compliment them on a game well played. That is called class and these teams deserve us to act accordingly.

After all it was a magnificent game.

@ Lake Powell & Ernest T. Bass: That's quite a fantasy world you're living in. Why would Utah be afraid to play a team that we have beat 8 out of the last 11 times, 4 out of the last 5, and now 3 in a row? The answer is, we're not. You guys simply do not get it. We just don't care to play you anymore. And where are all these Utah fans that want the rivalry to continue? I haven't met one. Everyone I know would rather move on and play other teams.

  • Ernest T. Bass Bountiful, UT
    Sept. 17, 2012 8:31 a.m.

Everyone is becoming afraid to play us. It's why utah won't play us and why PAC11 won't play us in a league.

Lets me honest. That game is what makes the rivalry great! Its a shame the Utah has decided that BYU is too big of an challenge to play each year. Can you imagine Notre Dame decided to not play Michigan or USC? You can pretend that it's the u moving on but all utah fans know in there hearts that the u of u has sold out. Has taken the easy way out. Don't give me the well Colorado will now be our rivals. That will never hold a candle to what Utah and BYU has here. A majority of fans on both sides want it to continue. If you cant beat BYU you shouldn't be in a big bowl anyway. Your AD is a coward and anyone else who decided to forgo one of the greatest rivalries in the country. I'm surprised there is not more anger on the U's side. You shouldn't stand for this. I think this is one area both Utah and BYU fans can agree. The rival should not end

Wow, delusions of grandeur, Ms. B... USC, Oregon and the PAC will not match up against your team of "athletes" like BYU did. I have my own "call" to make: Utah will fall to ASU this week, and later to UCLA, USC (a blowout in SLC) and also to U of A. You will wish every team was as easy to beat with sloppy play, as BYU was this last weekend. I predict Utah will be at best 3rd in the PAC 12 South.

    Sept. 17, 2012 8:17 a.m.

East coast coug, you sound like a closet Ute, Chris B., you can't beat the Aggies and now the south is yours. Where does that put us? I guess we are the best in the south of the Pac 10 plus 2. Wow, I really think the Aggies are the best in state by far.

I don't think your guys don't "get up." It's just a matter of us having a team full of athletes, and your team having sunday school boys that think they are athletes.

No better example is the play of the game, the 70 yards run when Riley Nelson essentially handed the ball off to Mo Lee. 3 or 4 byu guys should have had the ball before Mo got to it, but Mo is an athlete, and byu players are not.

I called this win all year long. Just like I did the year before. And the year before.

    USC was exposed.

    The South division is ours

Utah - Oregon for the Roses!

And your season is over. LOL!

For me, the most outstanding aspect of the game and of our rivalry is the emotion and spirit of the Utah players, coaches and fans. I just wish, FOR ONCE, our team would show up at this game (or any other for that matter) with the intensity shown by the Utes. What's the point of scheduling this game if we don't "show up"?? If we can't "get up" to play our rivals, especially with so many stars out of the game, we are hopeless.

Now we play Boise State - another team that has EARNED their way to national respect, exposure and a better conference.
