jarka-rus:"...what has this grandiose BCS schedule and Pac 10.5
affiliation gotten the U??"The answer is obvious, but let me
spell it out for you...The 2011 MWC Boise St. team finished 12-1,
and ranked 8th in the final poll. And what did THAT get them? A sad date with
a 6-7 Ariz. St. team in a $1.1 million bowl game (Las Vegas). The
2011 MWC Champion team -- TCU -- finished 11-2 and ranked #14 in the final poll.
And where did THEY end up? An even SADDER date with the WAC's La. Tech in
a $500K bowl game (Poinsettia).Meanwhile, an 8-5 Pac-12 Utah team
earned a date with the ACC's Ga. Tech in the much more prestigious Sun
Bowl, worth $400K MORE than both the Las Vegas and the Poinsettia Bowls
COMBINED!The Sun is far and away a more prestigious bowl game than
anything the MWC offers. That's why it has the higher payout, and
that's also why it received the larger television (and stadium) audience.
And the Sun got the Pac-12's FIFTH choice.Pac-12 5th choice
> MWC's 1st & 2nd.
Naval lintSo what has this grandiose BCS schedule and Pac 10.5
affiliation gotten the U?? They are non ranked and lost to a 2-10 CU team at
home?? What's the excuse? You actually think you will sniff the Rose bowl
ogsmom:"Then again, can't beat TCU at home."Uh...when exactly was the last time the Indy-WACers beat the Horned Frogs?
Typical hypocritical coug.
Warrior Parent:Yes, Utah plays in a BCS league and is playing
Northern Colorado. On the other hand, our Indy-WACey little brother does NOT
play a BCS schedule, but still has Weber State on it. So what's THEIR
ogsmom:"Can't beat BYU at home, (unless some miracle comes
up from the underground to disrupt the outcome)..."What? Utah
beat their little brother at RES in 4 of the last 5 meetings (and half of those
were BLOWOUTS), with the only blemish coming from some "miracle"
last-play toss to Harline on his knees. Fail.
The Utes didn't win those games! Alot of teams are smart, and hard working.
If it wasn't for the stadium, band, weight room, and seats, they,d be
nothing.Jordan Wynn will be fine. Nothing wrong with resting the
Just like last year, the defense is going to have to win a lot of games for the
"Jordan Wynn still sidelined as Utes close camp"deja vu
Jenny83Nice sugar-coating, but the USC game came down to a
desperation 41-yard FG TRY, which was easily blocked and returned for a TD. Even
IF the Utes had tied the game, they would have lost in OT.Gotta
laugh at your 2012 recruiting class hyperbole!Hardly any players
from that class will even be playing this season. What are you hoping for, that
their stares from the sidelines will somehow influence the game?
Northern Colorado? seriously? Northern Colorado!IC by joining a
"BCS" conference Utah is doing what all the other BCS schools do. Play
pansies out of conference
Ogmson -- The USC game came down to the last play of the game --- At USC ... As
far as the rivalry goes, BYU has only won 30% of the time in the last decade.
This year will be no different. If you go to "rivals" you will see that
the Utes have the 28th best recruiting class in 2012 and BYU comes in at
#61......BYU is toast.
Scott - We sure beatdown the lowly Cougers last year "with" Wynn. BYU
Worf...You are seriously funny. You need to hit open mic night.
Seriously, just go through all the same material you bring to these threads and
you'd bring down the house every time. Some great stuff, thanks for
Edited from a Ute fan trying to cause bitterness. Quarterback is the
toughest position to recruit at Utah"Interesting. I've said
similar things and I get criticized when I do.Utah does not have the
"athletes" needed to be a true national title contender like BYU,
Alabama, Texas, Boise State, and USC. Why do I include BYU? By virtue of having
an undefeated season and National Championship. BEATING the likes of Oklahoma
along the way - we've proven we have the athletes and coaching staff to be
the best in the nation. We know what when you have a football team,
winning games is #1.This is another reason Utah is not and will
never be a true national title contender. When was the last time you
heard someone like Saban, Mendenhall, Stoops, or Spurrier say winning football
games doesn't need national television coverage? NeverI applaud
Utah for sticking to what they believe in.but Utah fans need to wake
up and smell reality - your program is incompatible with being a true national
power. So stop acting like you are.You are a great WAC team like
Wyoming, and that is all you will ever be.
I fear Wynn is hurt. Even a pro baseball pitcher would be throwing a day or two
after the game. At the very least it is extremely poor camp management. A player
so "tired" (injured) that he needs to sit out half a week of practice?
Ummmmmmm. How else do you spell h u r t? If I was so laid up and tired that I
could not throw a ball for 4 straight days, I would say I was "hurt."
The coaches/Wynn must learn that term, HURT. It means that one is not able to
perform in a manner considered normal. Ergo, Wynn is hurt. I hope the punting
unit is ready, because they may be getting the nod quite a bit. Let's go
Hmmmm.A few BYU trolls, that's predictable. But a whole lot of
screen names I don't recognize, presumably because they really are U fans,
but not impressed with the qb situation.I really do hope Wynn
recovers and is able to play all season. For better or worse, can't wish
I'll will on a player. I think even with him, many U fans are in for a
bitter shock come September 15th.
Uh....I think you have to beat Colorado at home before you start dreaming about
beating USC at home. Then again, can't beat TCU at home. Can't beat
BYU at home, (unless some miracle comes up from the underground to disrupt the
outcome) and the list goes on....But then, go ahead dream on....Your nightmares will begin in earnest mid-September.How
about the Northern Colorado game! What.......... Was Lone Peak HS
not available for a test?
@ scottWorry about beating Utah first before you start worry about
Utah beating Colorado.
"Wynn is entrenched as the starter despite not throwing the ball since
Wednesday for precautionary reasons because of arm soreness. Whittingham said
Wynn, who is healthy after shoulder surgery last fall, has been throwing fast
balls throughout camp to get more zip on the ball and just needs to give his arm
a little rest."Wynn needs "a little rest".Looks like another disappointing season coming up for utah.
Better stick with Wynn; U couldn't even beat Colorado without him.
Just the FAX6:10 p.m. Aug. 13, 2012Olympus Cove, Utah"We're already starting to hear rubblings from RES that Wilson could
replace Wynn sooner than later. In fact, it wouldn't be a bit surprising to
see Wilson getting significant playing time in Utah's opening game. Wynn's throwing shoulder still isn't back to where it was
before surgery and he still can't throw the deep ball with any velocity,
making deep outs extremely risky."------------When
will Whittingham stop playing games and realize that the public isn't
buying his "just precautionary" song and dance anymore?
UteologyWhat makes you think U can beat Utah State and BYU even with
Wynn? The false bravado of the kids on the hill is laughable.
Now we will really see if Utah has depth at QB or not. If Wynn can't go I
rather see Wilson. I can't see Wilson playing any worse than Hays did last
year.I say sit out Wynn for the first three games regardless. With
our defense and running game, if Utah can't win with Wilson against NC,
Utah State, and BYU then we won't be doing much in the PAC-12 this year.
Jenny,"They will be fine." Well maybe 'they' will
be fine but without a QB it's going to be very difficult for the rest of
the team.It looks like you're not in the majority with your
optimism, several Ute fans expressing some concern. It's another
Ute 'drama' unfolding, just like last year.
The Utes will be fine; if Wynn can't go it's merely an opportunity for
Wilson to shine. Haters hate on, but at the end of the day Utah will pound BYU
into the ground; just like last year. 54-10 = Check Mate!
The Utes have their best recruiting class in Ute history this year. They will be
@johanbjorg"Wynn will be fine"Oh, is he applying for
Dental school or something? An equally big concern is that the OL was
next to last in the Pac12 last year in sacks given up and that was with
2All-Pac12 tackles in Bergstrom & Cullen and now those guys are gone and it
doesn't sound like anyone has really stepped up to fill those shoes.
I've read they can't decide between a career backup like Mason or a
true frosh. This will impact both the passing game and the run game. What
happened to the humongous JC OL recruits they were hyping before camp opened? It's looking more and more like we're in for another season of
Well it is more than obvious that Wynn is not 100% as we heard all spring and
summer. With the problems on the O-line and breaking in both tackles, it is only
a matter of time before Wynn goes down with another shoulder injury. Ute fans
better be prepared for another anemic offense and a losing record in the PAC-12.
Hopefully one of your inexperienced backups pans out so you can actually give my
trojans a game come October. Not that it will be much of a game either way...
Looks like a lot of questions remain....not a glowing endorsement of anything by
Coach W.Better hope CU didn't give NC any pointers.....
I'm worried about it. I do not think that Hay's can give us any better
a result than he did last year and I'm not sure he can even give us that
good a result. Wilson is a freshman, it doesn't seem most fans understand
what that really means. Wynn needs to be healthy or it could be a
very long season for us.
Once BYU's Van Noy meets wynn and his poorly performing and unproven
offensive tackles, then we'll really see how "deep" they are at
quarterback. The real reason they are holding wynn out of practice is to make
their other guys better...they know wynn won't last past game 3!!
We've now come full circle and then some with this story... from "arm
soreness" to "just a little fatigue with his throwing shoulder",
from the original shoulder injury to the one he doesn't use back to his
throwing arm and shoulder.I've omitted all of the coaching
staff deflection, the half truths to the media, drama and so forth. It's beginning to sound like Jordan's days as a starting Ute QB may
be coming to an end. It's got to be frustrating for him, the mental hurdles
to overcome, nevermind the coaches pressuring him to perform and part in
this.Good luck on your recovery... again.I'm sure
there will be plenty of comments that will cover all the other aspects of this
story and the never ending saga of the never ending Ute QB dilemma. Another long season in Uteville.
Good luck, Utes!I am looking for the first and only loss of USC at SLC.
I'm thinking Wilson better be ready!!
inb4 BYU trolls.Wynn will be fine.
I'm a bit worried about the Wynn situation. I'm hoping that it really
is just a precaution holding him out the last few days but it's still
unnerving. At least our backup situation is much better than it was last year.
We have a talented group of receivers this year and we need someone who can get
the ball out fast an accurate.I'm happy to hear that there
weren't many major injuries during camp. I hope the handful of guys that
are a little banged up can get back on the field next week. Can't for the season to begin! So close.Go Utes!
