If you didn't have pros in the Olympics the US would be even more dominant. Remember, all the other countries' teams are made up 100% of pros too. Of course not all are in the NBA, but they play professionally in other leagues. So the US isn't the only country fielding a "dream team" - the other countries are fielding their dream teams too! Unlike the US, other countries tend to sign their pros very young (around 16). So if we were playing with nothing but amateurs, it would be the best US college players against a bunch of teams made up of high school sophomores. And you thought it was lopsided now...

The correct way to solve the problem is to age limit the players (say, every player has to be under 23) instead of worrying about their professional/amateur status. That's how Olympic soccer does it and it works very well.

How about no more professional players playing in the Olimpic from now on? Go back to what it was. Tired of this Dream Team!

Hopefully this puts an end to the comparisons to the real Dream Team of 1992.
That team never stumbled. At least this team didn't lose... USA all the way!!
Current medal count: USA 103 China 87.
