I have applied to several non=profit openings, but have seldom heard from any of them. I have 20+ years managing people and growing businesses successfully, yet they are not interested. I see the problem as one of snobbery. I believe there is a sense of 'oh, you have never worked at a non-profit so you couldn't know how to manage or lead here.'

If non-profit companies need experienced leaders, perhaps they should realize that most for profit companies require as much if not more hard work and dedication as a non-profit. The skills and talents required are the same; organization, leadership, ability to teach and train, dedication....it is a similar skill set.

Get off your high horse non-profits and being willing to see that no experience at a non-profit does not mean no experience or skill.
