Duckhunter has also been known to show his desperation when describing Norm Chow's promotion from Offensive Coordinator to Head Coach as "bailing out" on the Utes. Nope, it's obvious what is happening here. Coaches leave for a promotion [Chow, Shramm], or for better programs in better conferences, and for more money [i.e. Davis to Florida]. Just because we're in a top league now doesn't mean we can't get poached by THE top league in college football. And the article was pretty clear that Davis had his eye on Florida even before he came to Utah.

It isn't as if Davis is leaving Utah for Florida Int'l or Fla. Atlantic. He's not even leaving us for UCF or USF. It's Florida. More money. Better recruits. Better recruiting grounds. SEC. REAL national championships...not dubious ones where one backs into it after playing a mediocre 6-6 team down to playing their 4th string QB, then finishes as the only undefeated team in the country because all they played were weak-SOS WAC teams and the 104th ranked SOS out of 108 D-1 teams. It's obvious that Utah either gets the kinds of coaches top programs from all across the nation covet, or refines them into one. It's also obvious that nobody leaves the Y because where else would they go? Florida? Please. Don't make me laugh. Their coaches are like their team....nobody from an AQ conference wants them.

"We still have one position left to fill on our staff and we will begin the search immediately. Our goal is to find the best fit for our program."

Hmmm....I wonder who they'll hire this time? I'm sure cullen isn't going anywhere and he wasn't very good and doesn't have any experience. Sounds like a lock.

Duckhunter keeps using this line "leaving Utah, Davis explained, was easy".

Too bad those were Dirk Facer's words an not Davis'. Notice the lack of quotation marks.

    Pulling at strings as always.

This is just more evidence that Utah is the breeding ground of great coaches. Whittingham has never made a bad hire and Utah coaches are probably the most in demand coaches in the country.

    P. U.
Ducky can often be a little erratic at times but he's definitely dead on on this one...Once Chow was lured away it's been a stream of abandoning ship for Utah Coaches...

Keep trying to ease the ensuing pain by reaching out for straws about BYU's coaching...which is still coming up with 10 plus seasons... (7-7 under Bronco)...and top 25 finishes despite 54-10...4-3 between Whit and Bronco... or 7-10 from the low point of the Crowton years. A young coaching staff still intact and gaining experience is a step ahead of reloading two years in a row.

    @proud "lol" ute

All I see is utah coaches bailing in droves. Go ahead and tell yourself that it is somehow a positive, it isn't, they don't want to be there so they are leaving.

"Leaving utah, davis explained, was easy"

That's not the comment of a guy that was simply looking to move up, afterall utah is in the pac12 isn't it? That is the comment of a man that can't wait to get out of there.

I love how utah "fans" try to spin things. Last year when davis and chow were hired we were told utah was hiring a "dream team" of coaches. Those were real comments by hedgehog, naval vet, chris b, and other utah "fan" luminaries.

Now those same guys are getting out as fast as they can, after only one very mediocre season at utah. Of course the utah "fan" spin on here is that these coaches are so great that school are beating down the doors to take them. It must have been that stellar 4 - 5 conference record huh? Keep spinning, it is really all you have left.

Just curious..... when was the last time ANY program, let alone a top program like Florida showed an interest in any of Bronco's staff?

This quote from one of the cougar trolls is just never going to get old when it comes to the blue skewed nonsense they continue to post; hypocrisy, justification, rationalization, spin, desperation, excuses, deflection, etc....."

"Leaving Utah, Davis explained, was easy"

But doesn't davis realize utah is in the pac12? Coaching at utah in the pac12 is the pinnacle of college football. Isn't it?

A 25 yr old OC and now this!

I wonder if the HS coach down here in Springville is being considered for the new opening.

What's hilarious is that the Dnews could not print the 'other' statements flying around.

Perhaps its just the fact that I don't like Florida.. but I found Davis' comments felt a lot like backhanded compliments. Am I the only one who feels that way? I think there are better ways to phrase what he said and I just don't appreciate the way he said it. But like I said... Maybe I'm just sensitive about the fact that its Florida... I hate florida... lol.

Thanks for your help, Coach. Wishing you the best of luck... but from my own personal point of view... Good riddance.

    Good Luck Coach Finn!!

Tim Davis was instrumental is the run schemes the opened holes for John White IV. I have wanted a down hill run game for awhile.

Now it looks like Brian Johnson will go back to the spread. I wonder if that is part of the reason why Coach Davis is leaving (Florida pocket books aside). With Davis gone along with the downhill run attack, that could hurt John White IV.

Jordan Wynn and Jon Hayes are not suited for the spread offense at QB (not mobile). I am excited about Chase Hansen and Travis Wilson, but please tell me the 24 year OC (Johnson) is not going to go with a freshman QB next year.

Hire McBride to coach the O-line, he would be great!

I am a Ute fan and I can't believe what's happening to the coaching staff. The first thing is Utah gives the O.C. job to someone who has never called an offense at any level and now you lose one of the best OL line coaches around, a very big problem. I understand taking care of the people around you but hiring guys with no experience and losing coaches with all the experience is something to worry about. Playing at the college level and coaching at the college level are completely different. Maybe the next sideline reporter for the Utes played college football and he'll be hired to coach the O-Line (the most important group on the field), nothing against the guys that have been hired but I do know that playing in the Pac 12 there should be coaches knocking down the door to get a job with a Pac 12 team, no excuse that there isn't any coaches out there. I am a Utah fan and I have a feeling it's going to be a long season.

Coach Davis isn't just bailing on the Utes for another team - he is headed to Florida! They have some of the deepest pockets in all of college football.

As far as Brian Johnson goes, he has the respect of his peers and I suspect after the next rivalry game some coug fans will too.

Tim Davis was a great coach for the Utes and he will be missed. I wish him and his family the best.

It looks like Florida knows where look to find great coaches. Davis did a great job on Bergstrom and Cullen, and coaching them up to a shot in this year's NFL Combine.

Great job while you were here Coach Davis. And good luck at Florida. You will be missed.

    GO UTES!!!

Anyone who doesn't think this is a significant loss is kidding themselves. Understanding and keying on line play are critical to offensive dynamics and play calling.

wow it was easy to leave i have never heard a coach say that. Maybe he didn't want to work for a 24 year old OC. I think that KW must not be to mad about it though he didn't sign 1 recruite this year.

    Feb. 13, 2012 5:18 p.m.

I expect the current assistant position coach who worked with TEs last season to be promoted to the full-time position. Chad Lewis would obviously bring a reputable playing experience to the team, but don't know that he has real coaching experience.

Thanks Tim for all of the good work you did up on the hill. I wish you and the family the best of all that life offers.
It was good to have you as a Ute.

Calling Chad Lewis. Calling Chad Lewis. I'm a Ute through and through but have always admired Chad. He's personable and his brother is a former Ute ... and I do like former Cougar turned-Ute coaches.
