You claim, "MOST teams in the PAC12 do not have a win over a BCS conference team outside their own weak conference."

Actually, checking facts shows that MOST (8 of the 12) teams in the Pac12 beat a team from one of the other 5 BCS conferences.

Furthermore, checking facts also shows that only Gonzaga and Santa Clara beat a BCS team outside of the "weak" Pac12 conference.

Hey FYI. You may want to consider that the Top 3 in the WCC would be 1,2,3 in the Pac12. Oregon is tied for first. Really? The WCC is weak at the bottom, but even Santa Clara, who has not won a game in the WCC beat UNM and Nova. MOST teams in the PAC12 do not have a win over a BCS conference team outside their own weak conference. Good luck with that 1 bid league, while the WCC gets 3 teams in the NCAA tourney. ASU, they lost at HOME to both Northern Arizona and Pepperdine. LOL

Considering how only a few thousand fans show up to games and 8 players from last years team weren't interested in Utah basketball, somebody's gotta be interested right?

"To all the cougar fans trolling this article:..."

Sorry afro14, flagged for Illegal Substitution.

This is basketball season and this is a basketball article, so the only relevant score is:

    BYU 61 Utah 42
BYU 10 of the last 11

It's nice that Krystko finally developed some backbone and cut Jiggy, but it was far from a "tough call". The Utes had absolutely NOTHING to lose by cutting Watkins; the season was already a bust, and winning a couple more games wasn't going to change anything.

A 5-14 team getting all giddy about beating a 6-13 team at home simply shows how pathetic Utah's basketball program has become. While you're busy comparing conference teams, consider this:

WCC BYU beat PAC 12 Utah by 19 at Utah.
WCC Pepperdine beat PAC 12 ASU by 6 at ASU.

In this little round robin tournament, the WCC winners were fighting it out for the championship, while the PAC 12 losers were busy playing for the consolation prize.

It's fun to compare overall conference strength, but the true measure of a conference is how its best teams compare to the best teams in other conferences. In this case, the PAC 12 lags way behind the MWC and WCC as a distant 3rd best conference in the West.

    #10/#17 UNLV
    #33/#28 UNM
    #34/#53 SDSU

    #20/#25 Saint Mary's
    #24/#29 Gonzaga
    #39/#30 BYU

    PAC 12
    #23/#20 California
    #55/#60 Stanford
    #62/#50 Arizona

Credit Coach K on making a tough call by cutting Watkins and then coming out and winning a game in this fashion. Perhaps Watkins was holding the team back in some fashion, or maybe it was just a fluke, who knows? Personally, I like a coach who has the guts to make a tough decision for the sake of the program and predict that Coach K will get the Utah basketball program back on it's feet.

To all the cougar fans trolling this article: 54-10. ;)

I would love to celebrate your win, but . . .

The but shouldn't be followed by rambling about the PAC 12. The but shoud be followed with 'but I can't stand anything positive relating to University of Utah and will always make a negative post regardless of the situation'.

Besides, none of the Utah fans invited you to celebrate with us anyway.

CougarFaninTx expressed envy that the Utes are in the PAC 12 "This is not a time to celebrate the rebirth of the Utes, but simply an indictment of how bad the PAC12 has become."

Actually, it IS a time to celebrate the rebirth of the Utes. The Utes can't control the quality of teams in the PAC 12. They can only control their own team. Coach K released the Utes leading scorer (leading scorer, not best player) and the team had a choice. They could rise to the challenge, or quit. They choose to come out with fight and determination. Is this season lost? Sure. But they way the Utes are playing now is a great foundation for next year.

I would love to celebrate your win, but . . .

In the old Conference of Champions, the PAC10 breezed through the non-conference schedule, played some epic games between Arizona, UCLA and others, and regularly put a team in the Final Four.

In the new PAC12, a team that gets crushed by Montana St, Boise St, UNC Asheville, Fresno St and Cal State Fullerton and loses their best player is still 21 points better than Arizona State.

This is not a time to celebrate the rebirth of the Utes, but simply an indictment of how bad the PAC12 has become.

Coach Krystko should be named the coach of the year. To win 5 games and 2 in the conference (and not be in last in the conference) is quite an accomplishment vs. what the Utes looked like to begin the year.

I know its not great, but it is hope and in a season like this, that is all we can ask for.

If there were 9,000 fans in the HC, why are half the seats in the lower bowl empty? Are lots of Crimson Club members coming disguised as empty red chairs nowadays?

btw, before you get too excited about your big home victory over ASU, consider, even Pepperdine beat the Sun Devils, in Tempe.

I watched about 10 minutes of the Pepperdine game today on my channel #9403 and Pepperdine seriously looked like this was their first practice...lousy shooting, no set offenses, just good old rag tag basketball. Hard to watch!

I wonder if recruiting non-LDS basketball players will be tough in the future at these mini venues and against some really bad teams? Glad it's you..glad it aint us!! A win, win???
