If Zylstra is going to log so many minutes he needs to either shoot alot like he did against Buffalo or start playing better defense. Especially when he is teamed with Craig Cusick at the top those guys are horrid together on defense.

In the Utah game they let rotund Josh Watkins blow past them all game long and seemed helpless to stop him. Hartsock did a more credible job moving his feet and keeping in front of Watkins than either of those 2 did.

In the Baylor game they left everyone open on the perimeter so even their 10th guy off the bench was able to come in cold and hit wide open 3's.

It's really hard to watch when both of them are at the top of BYU's zone.

Carlino's 11 assists against Buffalo were more impressive than the 18 points against Baylor, because he helped the Cougars win and showed that he's not a selfish gunner. As he improves, this is going to be a very good BYU basketball team.

Good to see Winder get some confidence...he was a bit of a head case when he was playing the point and everyone was dropping off him daring him to shoot. He obviously feels much more at home playing the 2.

I can only hope that BYU will continue to get better. It would be great if Collingsworth and Rodger could both recover and be healthy contributors again.

The issue that is most concerning is the poor passing and unforced turnovers. It must improve if BYU wants to do well and get into the NCAA Tournament.

As you watch BYU play, I see how well Loveridge would have fit into their program. Big guy who can play outside. Utah will certainly depend on him next year. If he goes on a mission, perhaps Utah will be competitive again by the time he gets back.

Carlino is good already. He has only played 2 games. He will be very good. He knows how to pass and has great vision. The only player you can really compare him to is me when I played church ball. The competition wasn't as good but I think we are very similar players.

    Carlino's a transfer.

    BYU fans don't hate transfers?

I'm excited for Carlino's future, but be realistic: he's turning the ball over far too frequently. A PG's first responsibility is to take care of the ball. I definitely wouldn't say his stat line is right where you want it to be. However, I would say it's right where it should be for a very promising player's second collegiate game.

Utes 3-8. Merry Christmas and Happy New Pac-12 Season. We all can't wait to enjoy watching the train wreck.

The future is very bright for BYU basketball. Great young players and some very good HS commits for the next couple of years.
This is a team that will be in the big dance for the next several years.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Jabari Parker decides to commit to BYU.

This team is starting to get really fun to watch, they seem to have different players step up every game. If they keep improving this team will have a chance to compete for a WCC title. Hartsock has been the most consistent player. Last year was a very fun ride with Jimmer and Jackson, but this year the team is much more balanced. With Zylstra playing well and all the new freshman contributing at a high level this team could make a run.

Dave Rose has proven that he is a great coach and a good recruiter, and as a fan of basketball the uptempo style of play is great to watch.

    Jealous much.

The Utes would give their eye teeth to have a player playing as well as Carlino in only the second start of their college career.

Those starters were having not so whatever there reason were. Carlino almost had triple double but he needs to hone his shooting skill like Winder did. Hartsock last year was Heartsoft and this year now Heartsmart. I was hopoing that Winder would play more and he did and same with Brock Z. Good game that we are a deep team with benches. No info on Austin injury which might mean he might be fine Thursday night. Get well soon Harrison and Collinsworth.

Jimmer Carlino Ferdette had 5 turnovers in 22 minutes...that would equate to 9 per game. Or about 17 points if a team shoots 50% with the mix of 2 and 3 pointers...

In fact he does need to score more if his turnovers stay high...

    Buffalo?? No Baylor...

It's pretty rare when a PG in college gets double-digit assists, and Carlino did this in only his second freshman game for BYU. IMPRESSIVE!

This kid shows flashes of why he can end up being among BYU's best career players. His mistakes so far can be laid directly on his D1 inexperience and being a freshman. Those will recede in time.

BYU couldn't be in better hands!

Starting to wonder if Austin shouldn't be playing more and Davies less...

Only his second collegiate game, and the the media is calling Carlino's double, double a poor game. Come on, our PG doesn't need to average 29 points to be successful. His stat sheet was right about where you want the PG's stats to be. His movement of the ball opened up the flood gates for Zylstra and Winder, and they capitalized on the opportunity.

Hartsock is "Mr Consistent" or "Steady Eddy". In a quiet way, he is the cornerstone of the team.

I'm still trying to figure out how Davies can have and NBA caliber game against Baylor and disappear against Buffalo.

It was nice to see Winder & Zilstra shoot so well, Hartsock is tough, scoreless at half and ends with 16, Davies shows he's inconsistent and needs to get himself fired up , which he didn't do tonight. I hope Austin isn't hurt too bad. Calino was forcing things too much tonight, especially in the first half. He should be fine though, 10 pts and 10 assists and 7 rebounds and it was a bad game for him. This team is fun to watch because half a dozen or more of them can score 15 to 20 or more and if someone isn't having a good game someone else can pick up the slack. As they learn to play smarter, they should just get better and be that much tougher for other teams to beat. WCC has 3 or 4 teams that will be tough and give the cougs good competition and help prepare them for post season games. This should be a fun season and if players can get and stay healthy they should win 25 or more.
