Does Fredt and all of Cougardom forget how long it took Steve Young to become an NFL QB? He was traded by Tampa to make room for ...... Vinnie Testaverde!! How bad he must have been to be dumped for Vinnie!!!! It wasn't until Montana was gone and he had Siefert (a UTE) as a coach before he did ANYTHING!!

Go Alex! The Niners are lucky to have you!

    Re: Fredt

Yeah he is almost as good as John Beck, right? Mike Shannahan got shot out for his first time as coach on Sunday. The qb for that game was Beck.

Collie has 0 TDs this year, because he doesn't have a hall of famer passing him the ball.

Alex Smith leads the NFL team with the best record, not named the Packers.
Steve Smith leads NFL in receiving yards.
Eric Weddle leads NFL in interceptions.

    Go Utes!!

I don't care what the nay sayers say (byu trolls and local media). Alex Smith is a good quarterback who just needed good coaches and a good system in place for him to perform. The 49ers' new coaching staff has finally installed the right system and has the team turning the corner and becoming contenders. As the season is unfolding, it's looking very likely that the 49ers' will run away with their division and into the playoffs.

Good luck #11. We wish you the best.

From all that has been said, I just have one question: What does reaated mean and how did you figure Alex was 24th in that (whatever it is)?

Go Alex! Go Niners! Alex goes big this weekend against 0-8 (lifetime) John Beck!!

    Fred T,

The bottom line in football is the "W". Smith has led the previously-hapless 49ers to a 6-1 start, including three 4th quarter come-from-behind victories. Before you try to rain on the parade, take a look at the whole picture. Smith has, with a decent coach, shown what he is truly capable of. Can't say the same for most other quarterbacks in the NFL, including the one in Arizona.

Hey Fred I believe Alex Smith's qb rating is 95.7 which is 9th out of 32 teams. Oh and good old John beck has a 69.9 rating. Wheres Max Hall he has to be ahead of the "bust" Alex Smith... oh right hes out of the league haha

Hey Fred, prior to this season Alex's career QB rating was 67.3. This year it's 95.7. You don't get that kind of improvement from handing the ball off all the time.

    Kosta McNugget:

You do realize the irony of your comment is that a large part of your fan base represents said religion and they root for their members of OWN religion to fail right?

    No game winning TD passes?

Alex and Harbaugh know it will only take 1 loss before the cynics, skeptics, and Monday morning QB's re-surface, in stereo.

    Comes with the territory.

    Win or lose...Go 9er's!

    How about those 1-6 Cardinals?

    No running game.
    No passing game.
    Lots of TO's.
    No defense.
    No coaching...who needs coaching?

Thank goodness for those last place 2-6 Carolina Panthers!

Maybe a win this week against the 1-6 St. Louis Rams?

    See, not ballistic, just realistic...

Its always been funny how much people who supposedly represent a religion wanted Alex Smith to fail. Good to see him shut them up.

It just nice to see the team winning. Alex is a top notch guy that deserves all the positive press that comes his way. Keep it up Alex.

Comeback kid? Really? Smith is reaated 24th out of 32 in the QBR system.

The 49'ers are winning because he hands the ball off most the time.
The running game is winning games. Not the QB play.
The lack of turnovers from Smith is helping... but again, he doesn't have the ball long enough to turn it over.
Of course defense wins most games in football.

Before you go ballistic. I like the kid, have rooted for him since his draft (I knew his parents at Weber St) and wish him well.

But let's be realistic about this 'comeback kid' label.
