Health care is not the governments job, but forcing business to keep its workers out of poverty is his job. Better wages gives individuals the ability to be responsible and care for themselves. Spread the trillion dollar wealth of business with its employees and their human needs.

Herbert and the DN is telling the wrong group about responsibility. He must go to business and make them show some accountability to their employees to have a healthy life.

Raising taxes on the poor only gives business more profit to pocket.

"Christensen said that instead of expecting hospitals to become cheaper or clinicians to take a pay cut, technological options should be presented in lower-cost settings, such as out-patient clinics." Huh? Christensen is saying in essence there is no market solution to the health care mess because the providers won't accept falling prices. This is market failure. So we should have surgery in strip malls or converted warehouses? Without something like "Obamacare" health care quality will be stratified, as befits America's top heavy distribution of wealth. After you, Clay.

    Whew elevatedlife,
You must be the "food police" that we hear about. Come on over and have some kale with me sometime:)
You know what we are talking about, and it has nothing to do with food.

Quite surprised you all think the government is paying for these conferences. Do you not understand what registration fees cover? This was a registration required conference with people who care about finding solutions for Utahns.

Honestly, if you want the government to quit "butting in" why don't you all start doing something to better yourselves? If everyone starts improving their health, these groups don't have to start creating new policies and programs. It's not like they sit down and wonder what group to attack today. It's based on years and years and years of data.

Get active and lose weight...your risk of diabetes and heart disease drops...your consumption of fruits and vegetables increases...your doctors visits decrease....COSTS GO DOWN.

How come they can't meet at one of the smaller places in town, renting a large room at a less expensive location?
Would that not be a good way to send a message about conserving, helping the taxpayer, changing the mindset?
The Grand America is a very expensive place!

    Individual Responsibility.

I'm not sure why the citizens of Utah need 500 "change-agents" to meet at the Grand America to essentially mutually bash President Obama on the way to telling the rest of us that "you're on your own".

To meet at the Grand America to rehash the last three years is hardly inovative.

    Inovation presupposes meaningful, affordable solutions.

    "...bashing and rehashing..."

    Enough, already.

Held at the Grand America Hotel? Cha-ching, your government spending loads of money to rehash and blame the individual rather than come up with viable solutions to the ever increasing healthcare costs. The insurance exchange covers less than 1% of Utahans. I'm not too happy with the plans to have employers put a "set amount into the exchange". Sounds to me like that means pay more for your personal healthcare costs while we blame people who get ill and employers get off paying less than they do now. The real issue here? Healthcare inflation is outpacing wages. Where are the real solutions Gov. Herbert? Certainly not at a "vacation"/meeting paid for on the government credit card.

A low smoking rate in Utah is a big reason for better health here. The second is that more people are walking 30 minutes or more a day. This latter reduces cancers, breast cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke and a recent study indicated 21 times less infection than a control group. It has been shown 3 vegetables and day, 2 servings of fruit, little or no red meat, nuts, whole grains, beans of all kinds, fish weekly and as you know good turn goes unpunished so we have to put up with you 14 more years! But if you want to lose weight too you must walk 60-90 minutes a day or more.

This effort will be observed by a much greater audience than Utah.

A meeting of the leaders, State Health care, and the business world on new ways to defraud Medicacre, Medicaid, SSA, and the taxpayers of more money to fund the fraudulent Utah health care system.

If it wasn't for Utah defrauding and lying to tax payers what this state is doing with the funds they get apportioned from the federal and individuals Medicare, Medicaid, and SSA income deducted insurance premiums this state health care system would never exist. The fraudulent program is the redistribution of workers property and insurance premiums they pay every payday to local hospitals and doctors without any oversight or federal controls. These private funds are illegally being distributed for non eligible foreign nationals pirating health care services and the state paying hospitals and doctors for pirated theft of services.

Medicare, Medicaid and SSA benefits are illegally being distributed to people under the age of eligibility of 62 which is defrauding citizens of their future retirement programs.

The only thing Utah leads in the health care system in this state and country, is willful theft and fraud.

Lower costs by telling people to eat better. Stop giving pills to people who weigh 250lbs - give them fruits, vegetables and legumes. Why is this so hard to understand? I can't afford health insurance because doctors give everyone a pill. Stop it!!! 51% of Americans take a prescription pill everyday. It's asinine. If it doesn't decay/spoil, don't eat it. Why are these concepts so hard to grasp? Lipitor? What a crime to put a 250lbs person on a pill. Give them a juicer and some kale. How about a peach? That's what they need - not some crazy drug. They are sick because they are fat. They are fat because they eat the wrong foods. Change their diet!!!! That's how they will get cured. If they don't change their food addiction then they will die, so we must help them change their eating habits. Don't give them pills!! Give them love - give them knowledge - give them fruits, vegetables and legumes.
