What a wonderful article. I've always felt that a good working definition of a
bully is someone who is powerful but feels powerless. Attack media, whether
wrapped in the righteous cloak of "family values" or burning it, wants
us to feel threatened, angry, victimized by those who hold differing viewpoints.
It encourages us to rise up and beat (or at least shout) them down. I've known
otherwise kind and pious people to bear (read: e-mail forward) the vilest of
false witness against public figures whose worst *real* crime is to represent a
party or philosophy other than their own. I like the advice given by a BYU
Education Week speaker last year. When someone disagrees with you, say "You
see it differently than I do. And that's good!"
