My parents were duped by a good friend and church member. In the end the IRS came after them due to an illegal trust the guy had been selling and it cost them $40k and their home. They also had $30k invested with the crook they never saw again. Go with legit companies and avoid the small guy working out of his house. If it sounds to good to be true or guarantees results run the other way. Investment is risk and those that say they can take away that risk are liars and cheats.

    Sad to hear about Ty.

I hope Barton spends life in prison. Don't mix church and business. Lesson learned.

I make it a rule, no business at church, no business with people from church. No one can give consistent results with high yields, especially if they are from
church. He should have known better.

We are too trusting, especially with other members of the Church. If someone uses their Church membership to promote a business opportunity, turn and run fast.

My sister was also "fleeced" by a ward member who managed retirement accounts for her and several others. He took all their money and disappeared. Be careful out there.

I can't stand the fact that Detmer met this crook through the Church. It's embarrassing and sad.

This whole thing has to be hard on him. Not only did he trust the wrong guy, but he got his brother and friends to trust him as well.

    Hang in there, Ty.
